FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. After two previous runs for U.S. president, former Reagan diplomat Alan Keyes has announced he's again seeking the White House in the 2008 election, and he'll take part in Monday night's Republican presidential debate here.
Keyes told syndicated radio host Janet Parshall he's "unmoved" by the lack of moral courage shown by the other candidates, among whom he sees no standout who articulates the "key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people."
He added, "The one thing I've always been called to do is to raise the standard ... of our allegiance to God and His authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation's life" and he decried the lack of "forthright, clear, and clarion declaration" from the current crop of presidential contenders.
As a result, Keyes said, "We're putting together an effort that's not going to be like anything before, because it's going to be entirely based on citizen action. We're going to be challenging people to take a pledge for America's revival," and elevate them from spectators in the political arena to participants.

In one sense, I'm discouraged that he may take support from Duncan Hunter, but even that outcome may not matter. Mr. Hunter needs to find a way to appeal to average folks who make up the bulk of our voting population. A few more or less die-hard, one-issue pro-lifers here and there won't lift him into serious contention. If anything, Dr. Keyes may provide a contrast that would make Mr. Hunter's views seem more moderate and reasonable.
The biggest outcome of Dr. Keyes' entry into the race may be that debate organizers put some limits on who is invited to future debates. If those organizing a debate don't want Dr. Keyes turning the event into a circus, they may decide to limit the debate to candidates with over 5% popularity in national polls. That debate would be limited to Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, John McCain, and maybe Mike Huckabee. In some ways, that narrowing of the field may be necessary, but I'd like to see Duncan Hunter with a chance at the nomination.
Bill
They called Reagan a macromanager; wasn’t Andrew Jackson a real micromanager, though the term did not exist?
So, do you think that explains Keyes’ public attacks on Dick Cheney’s daughter as well?
Sure! Just what conservatives need...another candidate to split the primary vote, enabling the moderate Rudolph Giuliani.
I'm going to vote for the Republican nominee in the general election no matter who it is...but I want the Republican nominee to be Fred Thompson. As insignificant as Keyes is, he can siphon a few primary votes away from Fred in every state. Every moderate or liberal Republican voter in the country will pull the lever for Rudy in the primaries, and conservatives get to choose from 8 or 9 candidates.
As a candidate, Keyes is a joke! As a spoiler, he's a jerk with a Messianic complex!
No way Keyes wins but it will be more difficult for the RINOs at the top of the leaderboard to pass themselves off as “real conservatives” with Alan around. In addition, if he can be brought into the campaign of the eventual nominee, he can be trotted out as the anti-Obama who can attack Obama without being called a racist (plus, he’s darker than Obama which will draw out another contrast).
Two things I predict about Alan Keyes:
1) He will “win” at least one debate in post-debate polling.
2) He will not win more than 2% in any primary.
The Declaration wasn't simply a letter to King George, it was a manifesto to the world.
The Declaration of Independence is the political soul of the nation, the Constitution its Political body.
The only thing Keyes wants to rescue is his salary....riding the campaign gravy train.
Alan moved to and ran for the Illinois US Senate at the request of the Chairman of the Illinois GOP. To label him as a "carpetbagger" is not really deserved.
If you will recall Jack Ryan was running against Obama. Jack got caught up in a sex scandal and dropped out. No Illinois republican had the balls to step up and take Ryan's place, hence they went outside the state fo a candidate.
LOL!
He’s not a D.C. insider... He can’t run!
Lincoln was one of our greatest Presidents.
I voted for him in the 2000 primary. Most of you voted for El Presidente Busho. Thanks for that.
Me too....
I’ll vote for him in a heartbeat.
So, do you think that explains Keyes public attacks on Dick Cheneys daughter as well?
I dont have any reference that Keyes specifically launched attack or attacks against Cheneys daughter. One thing is for sure about Keyes, that he is totally against homosexuality and will not hesitate to quote from the Bible for his argument. Knowing this, if I would tell him that my daughter and/or my son is homosexual, and what he has to say about it, his answer probably will be that a homosexual is a selfish hedonist. He said it before. Should I conclude that he hates my child? He condemns only his/her behavior.
But seriously ...
Bump Dat...
“Next Gingrich will announce that he will run. Then what are we gonna do?”
How many does it make now?

Asian-Americans put a lot of pressure on their kids and as a result, they’re the most successful ethnic group in the United States.
You are right about that. I was stationed in Korea from 2002-2005 and you are 100 percent correct.
