FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. After two previous runs for U.S. president, former Reagan diplomat Alan Keyes has announced he's again seeking the White House in the 2008 election, and he'll take part in Monday night's Republican presidential debate here.
Keyes told syndicated radio host Janet Parshall he's "unmoved" by the lack of moral courage shown by the other candidates, among whom he sees no standout who articulates the "key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people."
He added, "The one thing I've always been called to do is to raise the standard ... of our allegiance to God and His authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation's life" and he decried the lack of "forthright, clear, and clarion declaration" from the current crop of presidential contenders.
As a result, Keyes said, "We're putting together an effort that's not going to be like anything before, because it's going to be entirely based on citizen action. We're going to be challenging people to take a pledge for America's revival," and elevate them from spectators in the political arena to participants.

>>>Do you have a link to a listing of state deadlines?
No, I don’t. And if anyone has a master list, I would love a link.
This is one of them. From what I understood, the registrations for the primaries that were moved up to January had early September deadlines.

Alan Keyes is an excellent advocate.........doesn't seem to have found an appropriate vocational use for his talents.True
......could put certain important cases 'on the map'.....
This is why I don't mind him participating in the race.
.....Jerry Brown playbook, and get elected mayor.....
Good advice.
......we should probably start seeing a series of more Lincoln-Douglas (one-on-one)style real debates instead of the Q&A's we've had so far.
That would be nice and very informative for the folks, therefore the establishment that holds/seeks power, money and self interest will not let it happen.

Ron Paul no longer in last place! ROFL! Hey at least Paul was elected to something. Keyes has never held public office.

FR’s most fervent Keyes sycophant is curiously missing in the first 100 posts of this thread. Is he doing advance work in FL for the debate, or is he posting under another identity? Inquiring minds want to know.

..as a former Keyes voter and supporter, this is proof positive that Dr. Keyes has a political tin ear
Any voice and effect he had on the American political scene, save to a small appreciative group, is long gone.
He is one of the most gifted orators of our age--like a modern day William Jennings Bryan--he can run, but he will never get elected...

I liked to see a master list also.
The WV link you gave has a long lead time [Sept. 1, 2007 to Feb. 5, 2008] but then maybe many states do. I know the deadline in Texas is Jan. 2, 2008 for the Primary on Mar. 4, 2008 [62 days].

Hmmm. Seems to me I remember something about a Republican who lost a race for Senate in Illinois, but went on to be the party’s nominee for president. I think the first name was “Abe” or something like that. Can anybody jog my memory about the the last name?
To: Man50D
Oh no...not him again.
Oh well.

Alan Keyes has a strong moral streak in him, and that's admirable in a society in which we are increasingly being asked to abandon the concept for expediency's sake. That being said, he is a nothing short of a political joke. To wit:
- In his 2000 Presidential run, Keyes got himself arrested trying to crash a televised debate.
- Later that year, when campaigning in New Hampshire (or thereabouts), Keyes was the only candidate who agreed, in exchange for a campaign contribution, to dive into a mosh pit to a song recorded by commie/anarchist rockers Rage Against The Machine. The whole stunt was organized and televised for posterity by a TV producer who had a show on cable TV called The Awful Truth. You may have heard of the guy: Michael Moore.
- He will forever be known as the man who moved hundreds of miles from the Capital region to Illinois in 2004 for the sole purpose of having his clock cleaned by Barack Obama, who would have otherwise run unopposed after the MSM orchestrated the destruction of GOP candidate Jack Ryan by demanding the unsealing of documents of divorce from actress Jeri Ryan. His candidacy contributed absolutely nothing to the national debate.
His clownish activities like breaking into song spontaneously make him seem like a lunatic, and his presence distracts from real candidates and issues. What he does in-between the four years when there isn't a high-profile election he can lose, I have no idea.
Never mind comparisons to Harold Stassen; at this rate, Keyes' legacy may be more similar to that of Pat Paulsen.

I agree, I think he would be an excellent Secretary of State.I don't see Keyes as being a team player, willing to represent the administration policy when he personally disagrees with it. I could be wrong.

Just curious. What happens to the money a candidate raises if it is not all spent...and they lose?
Just wondering why he keeps running, when he knows he has no chance. He's a career candidate.
