Gingrich Thinks No Candidate a Match For the Clinton Machine
Washington Post ^ | Sep 14, 2007 | Dan Balz

Posted on 09/14/2007 6:05:28 PM PDT by indcons

Newt Gingrich, who must wake up each day spewing ideas and dispensing advice, offered a gloomy prognosis today of his party's chances of winning the White House in 2008 and his own prospects of running.

"I believe for any Republican to win in 2008, they have to have a clean break and offer a dramatic, bold change," he said. "If we nominate somebody who has not done that...they're very, very unlikely to win it."

Republicans must break with President Bush and separate themselves from the current state of the political system, he said, and so far none of the current candidates has met that test. But he also made clear that there is now almost no likelihood that he will become a candidate himself, having too little money, too much baggage and too much impatience for a successful campaign.

Gingrich, like many Republicans, believes Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee, and he spoke with some awe of the Clinton machine after remarking on the fact that, on the same day, Bill Clinton was on Oprah and Hillary Clinton was on the Ellen DeGeneres show. "As a professional, I am very, very impressed," he said.

Clinton can be defeated, he said, but only by the kind of campaign that none of the potential nominees is yet running. "None of the Republicans have figured out how to get a routine, repetitive explanation of the future that breaks out of the current situation and that's their primary challenge," he said. "Whoever does that will both, I think, win the nomination and have a realistic chance of defeating Sen. Clinton."

Newt is replacing McCain as the media’s favorite GOP malcontent.

Just go away, Newt. You’ve harmed us enough.

Which is smelling up the place a little too often now. All Newt does is bash republicans and praise the Clintons. Something is seriously wrong there. I have no love for the bonehead myself and would glady flush the turd.

As a conservative Newt Gingrich is not one I would go to for advice and leadership. When the going gets tough Gingrich has shown in the past a propensity to turn and run for cover. His leaving his position of leadership in the House is one example. Your statement saying that all a good candidate has to to is stand up to her on the issues and exploit her weaknesses is correct. Face it, Hillary Clinton ran from Bush II so how tough can she be. Further one thing we conservatives have on our side this time is the internet. We can all keep each other advised of information the mainstream media is trying to hide.

” I’d agree with Newt on this. The ‘R’s have alienated their conservative base to an unprecedented degree. FR mirrors this. Should the ‘R’s tender the usual RINO or mushbag, the krintons will regain the White House. “

I also agree .

What a negative pos. Good to see he didn’t decided to run - who needs a prez who thinks ‘their team’ is too weak and in turn is saying hillary is so powerful.

He’s right and that ain’t Fred.

How is he right?

Any republican candidate breaking from Bush on his policy of offensive operations against islamonuts in Iraq and elsewhere ain't getting my vote period. Any republican breaking away from Bush on tax cuts ain't getting my vote. Likewise any republican who runs as a gungrabber, pro abortionist or special rights for "special people' ain't getting my vote.

Bush is not perfect but he is a far better man than Clinton's doppleganger from the right, Newt Gingrich.

Next he will say our military is not tough enough to take on al Qaeda, so we better prepare for conversion to Islam.

Newt was his own worst enemy as speaker. He thought he could run the government from the House of Representatives, and he couldn’t.

On the day he took over the position, he refused a call from the President, and his ego made him play into their hands. Remember how he lost the PR war on the “government shut down.”

Now that he has apparently joined the ranks of the global warming debate deniers, he has lost my respect. Which is too bad, because I used to admire him tremendously. I still do to some extent, but sometimes I just don’t get where he is coming from anymore.

LOL

Is this your final answer?

On another note, the klinton machine (or, more accurately, the drive by media) will be aided significantly by the GOP's failure to demonstrate any backbone whatever.

Newt’s statement appears to be both a Rope-a-Dope to the overconfident Drive-By Media and a kick in the @$$ to the lackluster GOP fundraising so far.

Newt’s Gone RINO cause he lacked the testosterone to take her and the press on when they kicked him around. He ran back to the university and now asks could anyone else have the fortitude to challenge the left. Watch what happens when every camp, left and right, goes after Hillary and they decide to divide the spoils later. Maybe she isn’t so inevitable after all.

Newt presumes Clinton will win the nomination.

I do not believe this is pre-ordained. But let's assume it to be true for the sake of argument.

At some point, Clinton's scandals will be used as ammo by her Democrat opponents. The latest finance scandal, where $25k of illegal contributions suddenly became over $800k is a case in point.

Those negatives will weaken her. Plus, once the Republican nominee starts hitting on the same issues, Clinton will end up being hammered on scandals for a year straight.

I for one do not believe Clinton is as strong of a national candidate as some assume. Especially if the campaign is close, and Clinton has to do a lot of last minute stumping, her shrill voice is unlikely to convert voters.

The Nutroots can't stand her, and may stay home if she gets the nomination.

As in the past, Ohio and Florida are in effect, the election.

Oh, and G.W. Bush is not running.

I've always been of the mind that if Republicans would just put forth bold, unapologetic, authentic conservatives -- they'd ignite their conservative base to become so motivated to turn out the polls, and overwhelming victory.

Instead, the GOP goes "big tent" and spits on their base, thus either de-energizing that sizable base to either stay home or take their vote elsewhere -- and the result, not surprisingly, is defeat.

Bush fooled a lot of people with his Texas accent and "aw shucks" speaking, which got people thinking he was a gin-you-wine conservative. But really he's just a big-business, globalist, big government Repub., and he only appeals to those constituencies as well as the Republicans who don't care who's in office, just so long as there's an (R) next to their name.

I wonder if Newt’s negative ratings are higher than Clinton’s.
