I love chili. I love it with beef, I love it with chicken, I love it with beans, I love it with any other exotic ingredient that would compliment the robust flavor of four or five delicately prepared chili pods. I once enjoyed a delicious pungent bowl made with bear meat. It's no wonder for the last several years I have attended the annual Seacoast Republican Woman's Chili Feast at the home of our local first family of politics, Stella and Doug Scamman.
I enjoyed my first serving standing under the big tent set up with about 20 picnic tables "out by the barn." Early guests began to arrive consisting of Republican Party officials and major candidates' supporters and handlers. Everyone was "glad-handing" and declaring how great it was to be a Republican. For some, I could see, despite the smiles, their heart was just not in it. The party, locally and nationally, is fractured. Although on the road to repair, some members feel, metaphorically, it is, at the very least "still in a cast."
It began to rain so I moved inside the serving barn and enjoyed my second helping while sharing conversation with another local columnist of a competing publication. We resolved that both of us are under-appreciated, under-paid, and over-edited by shadowy figures in the hierarchy of our individual "prints."
I'm not sure if it was the particularly hot third bowl I was enjoying, or that God felt like a Democrat at that moment but suddenly the rain increased to what could only be described as a burst, followed by a wind so intense as to knock down a few trees and the dining tent as well. Chili was flying in all directions as people ran for the more secure permanent shelters. When the weather subsided to a more tolerable level, guests emerged to the outside and began to attend to the business of the day, politics.
Sen. Judd Greg gave a speech, as did Sen. John Sununu. Gubernatorial candidate Sen. Joe Kenney spoke for a few minutes, as did Jeb Bradley and John Stephens. Even presidential hopeful and late-comer Fred Thompson arrived and made a few promises. The subject matter was the same: "It is great being a Republican" and "Vote for me." All the while I was enjoying my fourth and fifth bowl of chili.
I didn't sleep very well that evening.
I dreamt the Republican Party never recovered and Hillary Clinton became president. It was a nightmare.
After choosing Barack Obama as her vice president, which propelled her to the Oval Office, she quickly dispatched him to some meaningless task to project the image that she, and she alone is in charge.
I dreamt her first appointment was naming ACLU President Nadine Strossen as attorney general. "We need someone to protect the rule of law and the rights of terrorist here and all over the world. Nadine has the experience to accomplish just that."
I dreamt she appointed George Soros of MoveOn fame as secretary or state. "We need a rational, unbiased person in that position," was her statement.
I dreamt she appointed actors Tim Robbins and companion Susan Sarandon as ambassadors to Iran and Iraq respectively. "They'd represent the average American's opinion and beside they make a cute couple."
Finally, I dreamt President Hillary appointed screaming Howard Dean as secretary of Health and Human Services. She stated "we need more family planning clinics and Howard is just the man to accomplish the task."
I woke up in a cold sweat with two thoughts running through my head: The Republican Party is still fractured and better get its collective act together or my dreams may come true, and the Seacoast Republican Women with Doug and Stella should consider some other kind of event next year.
Perhaps an "Oatmeal Festival."
Our party has to keep that woman out of the White House at all costs. If we are unsuccessful, this country will suffer irreparable harm. Every single bone of every skeleton in her closet needs to find the light of day. Forget running a clean campaign, this one has to be down and dirty with no holds barred. The stakes are just too great.

This cannot be just another presidential campaign. The Republican party must not behave as democrat-lite. We must have bold new ideas to attract people.

Real Tax Reform (Fair Tax- just imform the folks they will take home all their paycheck. It gives the power of the purse back to the people. Finally, it eliminates the constant lobbying for tax breaks to ‘special interest groups’)
As far as H.Clinton, we survived Jimmy Carter and if we prepare now, we can survive her ideology.
That many bowls of nukulur chili, she might well have Hillaried the sheets that night.
When Carter was in office, times were different and he, in many ways, was none too swift. I don’t recall anyone in all my years - which are many - who has run for the presidency that has been as coniving and deceitful as Hillary. She is street smart, has class but mostly low - doesn’t care about playing nice and has her eye on one thing - the White House, the power and the ability to say “I was the first female president of the United States” and she doesn’t care what or who she has to use and abuse to get there - she has NOTHING to lose. Do not ever for a minute forget her focus. Bill is unbelievable but he is just another one of her support staff whom she will include for now for what she has determined are his few assets to her and then she won’t care whether he shows up for dinner with her or someone else. In my opinion we have two candidates who have what it takes to win, considering the current climate - Rudy because he knows how to fight dirty but whom I wouldn’t vote for and Thompson, although I really haven’t quite decided why. I have never believed in voting for someone who may be the “best” of a less than desirable slate - but, in my opinion, we may very well have to consider this as our only option.
I have the same sorts of nightmares, although my imagination doesn’t go all way to the dystopic fascist state operated by Madame Hillary. I think Hillary would try to institute a variety of leftist programs, including nationalized health care and more federal involvement in education. I would think that her response to critics would vicious and fierce, combined with the slavish support of the media; I expect careers to die, reputations to be tarnished, and perhaps even a dirty tricks campaign against high profile critics.
Having said all that, however, I think that the Constitutional framework is our saving grace. Spreading out power among the various branches of govenment, the states, local authorities, and the people will make total control close to impossible. Most of us have firearms. There is a cultural attitude of simply ignoring rules and regulations that are seen as unfair or unwise. Some states would tell the feds to go to hell. And let’s not forget the vast army of attorneys out there, some of whom are on our side. IMO, Hillary would create an enormous mess and enormous chaos, dissent, and problems. The worst scenario might be on the order of The Glorious Revolution, with the elites fighting each other. The best scenario would see problem after problem, concluding with a bitter little autocrat barking directives to people who wouldn’t follow them.
