UPDATED: 12:38 pm EDT September 13, 2007
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A massive manhunt is under way after two police officers were injured and possibly shot during a standoff at a Southwest Miami-Dade apartment complex.
A white Honda Accord with a black hood was spotted abandoned near a canal near Southwest 216 Street and 129th Avenue. The car appeared to have a shattered front window from bullet holes.
The scene unfolded after a shooting at an apartment complex Southwest 143 Court and Southwest 280 Street.
Now, a helicopter is hovering over a wooded area at Southwest 216st Street and 129th Avenue, where a man armed with an AK-47 rifle is reportedly hiding. A worker cleaning a pool said he spotted a man running to the woods, Local 10 reported.
Officers called for major response from all police around 11 a.m. Thursday after several shots were fired.
A Honda Accord with a black hood fled the scene. The car that may have been connected to the crime was seen driving northbound in the southbound lanes on the Florida Turnpike and the freeway was shut down.
Sky 10 was over the scene where one of the police officers was transported in a Miami-Dade Rescue helicopter. The helicopter arrived at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The other officer was transported to a hospital closer to the scene, Local 10 reported.
The area where the altercation took place is east of US 1 and west of the Florida Turnpike, near Leisure City.

More cops than during the Miami Riots and a remarkable amount of Plain clothes in cars and trucks.
The seriousness of the situation aside, as always with 'journalists' that don't know squat about weapons (or just about any other fact but the liberal spin of the day), we can soon expect the weapon to be reported as a fully automatic .50 caliber cannon fired by a woman and child hating, right wing Republican bigot!
Press Conference starting now.
Horrible.Last week three Odessa Texas Police Officers were gunned down responding to a domestic violence call. All were killed. The whole community is distraught.Prayers to all of their families.
