Don’t obfuscate; everyone knows exactly what I mean.

As I said, “sex-obsessed”, and nothing else matters except that O. Doesn’t matter who it is, or how long they’re around.

How many more of these “live in boy friend” tragedies do we have to hear before we begin to hold the mothers responsible for child endangerment or criminal negligence

But-but-but a marriage license is just a piece of paper! And chastity is SOOOO 1940's! /sarc

"You’re assuming that she knew she was endangering her child.."

I'm not buying the "well, what's a girl gonna do" defense. You can't be trying to rationalize that the life of your child is a fair wager in exchange for a little flattery and deep d*cking. If this were a property case where the mother had been entrusted with something that her live in boy friend had destroyed she couldn't even argue reasonable care. I am saying she should have known and taken measures to ensure that her child was never in a situation to be harmed. These cases are not rare or dirty secrets. The papers, TV, and the internet are full of instances.

Sometimes we need to operate on the basis of reality. We on FR don’t know this guy’s whole history, or the details of what was found on his computer. However, unless he has an absolutely squeaky clean past, which seems unlikely, the rest of the info available to authorities very likely makes it reasonable to hold him without bail. If 1) reasonable people with access to all the available information are virtually certain he did it, and 2) the other things he’d be going back to in his regular daily life are not such that keeping him jailed until trial would be seriously destructive to his life, there’s just no good reason to send him out on the streets. What does he do for a living? Does he have a respectable job that he’s still welcome to show up for, and might lose if he can’t show up for a few weeks because he’s in jail awaiting trial? The sort of job that he couldn’t get again after he gets out? And believe me, the ludicrous delays between charges and trials would shrink dramatically if perps who had strong evidence against them that they’d committed a serious crime, were kept in jail until trial. The majority of violent criminals who are let out on bail for months or years pending trial can’t show any evidence of regular gainful employment at a legal activity, and it’s virtually guaranteed that they’ll at least be committing some minor crimes before trial.

Reality matters, because innocent people get killed when we refuse to make decisions based on our best perceptions of reality. What, really, is the chance that this guy is guilty of neither the girl’s murder nor the computer porn charges, and is there any real cost to him if he stays in jail and is later compensated for lost wages (if he has any) in the event that’s he’s found innocent? And just where is he going to go if he’s let out? Presumably not back to the home where he was living with a mother and her (then) three daughters. Who else is prepared to take him in? Anybody who doesn’t have a criminal record of their own? Somehow I doubt it.

The live-in boyfriend

Imagine my surprise. NOT!

When my hubby, SirKit, read the original thread about this early this morning, I told him, given the description of where the mother claims she last saw her daughter, that it was likely a man she had over, or a live in boyfriend, even though the story hadn't mentioned one.

No. Bail has limitations based on the charge. He's being held that maximum bail allowed by law for what he's been charged with. You can't be held without bail unless you've been charged with a Class A felony, which he has not. Bail is solely for those who've been charged, not those who are merely suspects.

1) reasonable people with access to all the available information are virtually certain he did it

Source please. I've been following this case locally where it's getting non-stop coverage and I've heard no such thing. The only statement from the sheriff's office is that he's the prime suspect. If anyone is certain of his guilt, they aren't saying.

Karl Childers in Slingblade, simple as he was, knew exactly what needed to be done to a Kevin Wayne Anders in order to protect a child.

Shacking up with anyone when you have kids is criminal. It may not be illegal, but it NEVER is a good idea.

We need to modify the laws. There are just too many terrible crimes committed by people who were out on bail, despite strong evidence that they had already committed a terrible crime and no evidence that they hadn’t.

“How many more of these “live in boy friend” tragedies do we have to hear before we begin to hold the mothers responsible for child endangerment or criminal negligence. Even though she has suffered an unimaginable tragedy I have no sympathy for any parent, man or woman, who puts their immediate gratification ahead of the welfare of their children.”

I agree 110%. It seems like the overwhelming majority of the time, it’s the mom’s boyfriend or the stepfather who abuses children. If I were in a situation where my husband was no longer around, I would wait until my kids were grown to date again. End of story.

I think it has to be witnessed by at least two people before the perp gets put in the express checkout line. Of course a few years in the general population might do him good....

Witnesses have described the ma as cheerful, caring, helping, ect... They also say she showed up with a black eye awhile back. Is there any more that indicates an abuse domestic situation?
