Minnesota Survey of 500 Likely Voters September 6, 2007
Norm Coleman (R) vs. Al Franken (D)
Norm Coleman (R) 46%
Al Franken (D) 41%
Minnesota is likely to host one of the more interesting and competitive Senate races in Election 2008.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone poll of the race shows incumbent Senator Norm Coleman (R) attracting just 46% support from voters and holding very modest leads over two Democrats seeking his job.
Coleman, a freshman Senator, leads comedian Al Franken (D) 46% to 41%. Colemans level of support is unchanged from our previous poll, conducted in March. In that earlier poll, Coleman led Franken 46% to 36%.
The current poll also finds Coleman leading Minneapolis attorney Mike Ciresi 46% to 42%. Ciresi has never held office before, but narrowly missed winning the party nomination for the U.S. Senate in Election 2000.
The demographic breakdowns are very similar regardless of which Democrat is mentioned in the poll. This suggests that attitudes towards Coleman remain the defining characteristic of the race. Incumbents who poll below the 50% level early in a campaign are generally considered vulnerable and Coleman definitely falls into that category.
Coleman, though, is still viewed favorably by 54% of Minnesota voters. Thats up slightly from 51% in March. Forty-six percent (46%) have an unfavorable view of their Senator.
Franken is now viewed favorably by 46% of Minnesota voters and unfavorably by 47%. Thats an improvement from March when just 39% offered a positive assessment of the new candidate.

This is not a good sign. Someone like Al Franken should be a joke.
How can Minnesota give a drooling moron like Al Franken serious consideration in a Senate race?
That 41% of the people there would actually vote for this raving lunatic gives me the impression that Minnesota has been well dimmified and that Mao’s cultural revolution is taking hold.
Must be something in the water.
Are the good folks in Minnesota so stupid as to vote for Alfranken?
Do they want an assclown to represent them?
Minnesotans must not take their politics seriously. First a wrassler for guvnor and now a clown for senator (maybe).
It’s early.
This is one race that will not tighten up. As the true character of both candidates becomes clear, one of them will pull ahead....and it’s not Al Franken!
Minnesota has been electing clowns, socialists and communists to important positions in government for as long as I’ve been alive (and long before that). No idea what afflicts them.
Minnesota’s a Democrat State. Be thankful Coleman is ahead.
Franken running for the Senate means the decline of the American government continues. Will Rogers held Congress in the appropriate esteem.
This is before folks know much about the dems.
Not surprising.
Minnesota, like Michigan, has pockets of hard core socialists, descendants of the progressive era red flag wavers.
The red flag wavers were brought over during the great immigration wave from eastern Europe from 1890 to 1920. These “Reds” were the progenitors of the nascent European Marxist, communist and fascist movements of the 19th century.
They came to the US and attacked businesses with strikes, bombings and riots, destroying many productive ventures, such as the copper mines in Michigan.
In my opinion, these millions of red flag waver. who voted in our elections, are the reason why we have the income tax, direct election of senators and other destructive legislation from the “progressive” era.
Today, the worthless descendants of the red flag wavers live on welfare and SS disability, leech off the productive members of society in every way possible and oppose business ventures in rural Minnesota and Michigan.
Today we call them hippies and eco-fascists. Those are just two reincarnations; there are others.
There are a lot of Germans in Minnesota, and Germany is the birthplace of Marxism and Socialism.
MN did elect Jesse Ventura as Governor.
The sad part is that Hillary is running strong in MN.
The current poll also finds Coleman leading Minneapolis attorney Mike Ciresi 46% to 42%. Ciresi has never held office before, but narrowly missed winning the party nomination for the U.S. Senate in Election 2000.
Franken won't get past the primaries. Ceresi is a lefty, but at least he can be taken (somewhat) seriously.
Just keep acting like a democrat norm and you’ll be out on your ash come next November.
Remember, these are the same people who voted for Jesse Ventura.
Doubtful. I think that Coleman will win or lose depending on how Iraq does.
