McCarthy moment? Not a good idea to bring that up, because outside of some tactics most of us don’t necessarily subscribe to, McCarthy was dead on target. Take a look at what passed for the Democrat party in the United States. Still think McCarthy was wrong? Look at any A.N.S.W.E.R. site, moveon.com., du.com and kos.com. Still think McCarthey was wrong? Can unAmerican activities rise to the level where it’s a threat to the nation? Take a good hard look at these entities and tell me no. I’ll reserve some beds over at Belvue for those who still can.

UPDATE: In subsequent testimony, Gen. Petraeus did attest to the importance of the Iraq war to national security.

Candidly, I have been so focused on Iraq that drawing all the way out was something that for a moment there was a bit of a surprise. But I think that we have very, very clear and very serious national interests in Iraq. BAYH: I judge by your response to Senator Graham, that you have given that a little additional thought.”
PETRAEUS: Immediately afterwards actually.
BAYH: “That happens to all of us, including those of us on this side of the table.
The general’s exchange with Sen. Bayh came just before 6 P.M. EDT, shortly before Matthews went off the air, and after Chris went on his rant at the top of the show. We’ll look for Chris to acknowledge Gen. Petraeus’s statement tomorrow.
