September 10, 2007 Reid: Continuing President Bush's Surge Into Next Year Is Not In Our National Interest
Washington, DCSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today in response to General David Petraeuss and Ambassador Ryan Crockers testimonies before the House:
Today, we heard that the Bush Administration likely intends to keep at least 130,000 troops in Iraq through next summer. Our enemies around the globe gain great advantage by having the United States mired in an Iraqi civil war. Clearly, continuing to pursue the Presidents flawed escalation policy until at least July 2008 is not in the national interest of the United States.
U.S. national security requires that we truly and immediately change course in Iraq, so that America can more effectively dedicate our resources to other, more pressing challenges we face across the globe. The longer we keep over 130,000 troops in Iraq, the less incentive Iraqis have to engage in the needed political reconciliation and the longer we avoid dealing with several pressing threats to our national security: Bin Laden remains at large and his terrorist organization has rebuilt its strength to pre-9/11 levels, Afghanistans stability is being undermined as the Taliban and narco-traffickers grow in strength, and Iran and other countries and groups pursue the acquisition of nuclear weapons technology.
Discontinuing the fight is in NO ONE’S interest.
Neither is having your anti-American political party in charge of the purse strings of our country....
So now both Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have weighed in. Okay........I would love to hear Hillary’s take on this. Let her weigh in too.
This asshat hasn't got the balls.
We kept over twice that amount in Germany during the Cold War. Perhaps the focus should be on how to expand recruitment to get US troop levels back to pre-Clinton days.

I will comment. Getting rid of a small time criminal in Congress would be in our national interest.
He is a fool, a liar and a total laughingstock. He embarrasses me that we are both Americans.
This turkey, Reid, is against the interests of the USA and needs to be purged before disgracing us even more.
and Iran and other countries and groups pursue the acquisition of nuclear weapons technology.

yup, harry!
and Iran and those “groups” (which I bet you can’t name) and countries are all around iraq and afghanistan.......and you wanna put our experienced combat troops WHERE?????
Okinawa?
Did you take a crap in the stall next to murtha or sumpmmm’?
He also does not have the votes. John Kerry(who served in Viet Nam) said yesterday on a Sunday show in response to UBL’s disgust with the democrat party, “We don’t have the votes to end the war”....
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
"I IZ NOT HAPPY I NOT SUPPORT SURGE"
There are so many elected “leaders” in Congress, who are an embarrassment to the office and a danger to the Rrepublic..
I have NEVER been more furious with the ugly, hateful, self interested and hateful behavior by so many “small” and feckless imbeciles - we call Senators or Congress Critters..
A POX on the bastard’s asses.
He’s right. As he proved earlier with his statement about MoveOn.Org, when Reid speaks it’s NOT for the country, or for what is right, but simply what is best for the democrats.
Thus he didn’t say MoveOn was wrong, or denounce what they said. Instead he said it wasn’t “helpful” to the democrats.
So now he notes that continuing the successful surge is not in “our” national interest, he means “democrats”.
Or - even more important - the votes.
Good post Phil. When I think of Reid I always think of my gif with his head bobbing, lol.
