Ron Paul Wins Debate but Republicans Won't Gamble on Him

Ron Paul clearly won the Republican presidential debate last night held in New Hampshire. Viewers were asked to text in their thoughts on who won the debate, Ron Paul received 34%, Giuliani 17%, all others lower. Fred Thompson who did not appear at the debate was clearly the largest loser as his pro-war stance and republican hard line talking points seem to be not what the people are looking for.

Sean Hannity, Fox News pundit, was clearly upset with the results and deliberately ridiculed Congressman Ron Paul. Although outpacing all other candidates by a 2-1 margin, it was clear that Chris Wallace and Brit Hume had tones of sarcasm when talking of Ron Paul. Giving absolutely no credence to Cong. Paul's responses, they even cut off his answer in a heated exchange between Paul and Huckabee, then declaring that Huckabee won the debate on that point.

Ron Paul demonstrated last night that he is the only Republican candidate that gives any thought to issues and his answers, all others gave stock replies and mostly followed the party line.

. . , how could Newt stand to sit with him without groundrules ?

Probably took at least three Ruth's Chris gift certificates.

The Ron Paul supporters are either RINOS or pure Lib Dems! They they have scamed every poll after every Republican debate.

I'm guessing that many, many registered voters don't text.

Not our fault if all of you are technically lame.

Not our fault if the pollsters only call landlines when so many people under fifty only have cellphones or VoIP either.

Just proves he is a Democrat. Remember when Tom Dashle admitted that he was about to call for Clinton to step down for the good of the nation, then suddenly realized that it would be bad for the Democrat Party? That's when they began their all out effort to attack Republicans.

Democrats always worry about the good of the Party over the good of the nation or its people.

Hunter is the ONLY one to utter the term “victory”.

IMO, that won't fly with the people he needs.

Hunter tried to jump in when Paul was uttering his nonsense, hence the ‘Halleluja’ when they finally let him speak.

That was a fine answer too.

Huckabee tried to argue with Paul, but was kinda weak.

Beyond weak. Speaking about honor, while important, is easily misconstrued into the kind of hard headed blindness of which Bush is accused, rightly or wrongly. It won't win the Presidency.

Ron Paul received 34%, Giuliani 17%, all others lower.

The sane vote split.

Say what you want about CNN, but their questions didn’t sound like attacks and they never asked questions like “why are you running as a republican, Giuliani” or “are you Al-Qaeda’s candidate, Paul”.

I am not trying to be argumentative, but seem to me these are the very same questions we here on Free Republic have been asking about these two candidates since they declared for President. They are tough questions and deserve an answer.

just goes to show that kool-aid drinkers like ron paul fans have no scruples about calling in several times over to stuff and skew the ballot to favor their candidate.

How in the hell can Fox News call itself “fair and balanced” after that BS last night? Say what you want about CNN, but their questions didn’t sound like attacks and they never asked questions like...

They were playing constant 'gotcha', poking the cage with their sticks, hoping for soundbites to play for the next few days as filler for their news, Hannity spews, etc.

I don't think any candidate was well-served. I think they'd be better off with the snowman from YouTube actually. I'm not talking about Ron Paul only, I think the entire field was being poked with a stick for Fox News' own little agenda. It was actually an awful debate for all foolish enough to participate.

If I were Fred, I don't think I would attend any of these if they don't fix the ground rules for the moderators and for the candidates' behavior. Fred is far better off not even to appear on FNC's debates.

I wouldn’t support Ron Paul for any office.

But I would have liked to listen to his responses not preceded by off-camera guffaws from Hannity or whoever the clown was doing this. FOX News whines because the democrats didn’t want them moderating their debate. FOX gave them more ammunition last night.

Ron Paul is from another universe...one that I have no desire in visiting let alone living.

He is the Republican version of Lyndon LaRouche...a standing punchline.

The only reason he's there is for comic relief...eliminate the CIA...Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha...frightening

>> Actually, it showed that Hannity isn’t secure in his own positions. He was a cheerleader for invading Iraq, and it’s now been shown to be a mistake. Now he’s cheerleading for invading Iran - and he doesn’t want to be challenged, because he knows there are very strong arguments against such a radical action.

No ... it simply showed that Sean Hannity isn’t really the best conservative representative in a debate. Hannity is usually right on the issues, but he’s not a great debater, not a terribly independent thinker, and not the smartest pundit we’ve got.

Look, I like Hannity. He’s a good guy. He’s great at spouting the party line, and giving a string of platitudes to support his position. But, he cannot think on his feet, and is entirely incapable of coming up with an argument that hasn’t been fed to him by someone else. As such ... right or wrong, he’s just not a terribly good debater.

Don’t allow the possibility that Sean Hannity lost a debate to convince you that Hannity is necessarily wrong. He’s just not a good debater.

H

I am no fan of ron paul, but that cackle was classless. It was a joke when he spoke but to cackle into the open mic was stupid.

But you can bet the Paulistinians are pole texting experts.I'm sure they are.

*********

I wonder how many registered voters over the age of 45 have ever used the text feature. Yet who is more likely to vote?

"eliminate the CIA"

While I can't stand RP, eliminating the CIA might be salutary, considering it caught an irreversible case of Clinton disease.

Might as well start over from scratch.
