It's officially Fred Thompson week in politics, as the former Tennessee Senator and actor will announce his presidential bid on Thursday.
Thompson, who has already been up and down in the polls as an unofficial candidate will be be on Jay Leno's Tonight Show, basking in the glow of that 31 rating.
Fred Thompson's support for Iraq will harmonize nicely with the President's Bush pro-surge ditty, in full-song in the run up to the long awaited Petraeus September report.
But next, Thompson will face increased scrutiny, particularly on his record as a social conservative, where opponents and pundits have already ascribed a certain wishy-washiness. His new again debut this week will inevitably seek to provide solace for conservatives, adrift in this era of scandals afflicting feet-of-clay public officials with a noticeable rightward bent.
Thompson had eschewed an earlier July announcement, waiting instead until after Labor Day, a sort of unofficial beginning to the political season. Has Thompson's late start taken the blooom from his early buzz? Funders have not been as effusive for Thompson this summer, but the headlines this week and next will be telling.
The question on the table-- is Thompson candidate enough to torpedo high-Q man Giuliani and base maximizer Mitt Romney? Or is the race far from over, as the Republicans enter there nomination process without a clear front-runner for the first time since the seventies.

Apparently he didn’t like all the idiots calling him fat, and upped his workouts from three times a week to every morning, and has lost a lot of weight deliberately.
What a lazy guy.

I heard they tried to revive him with CPR, but he was just too damn lazy to breathe. They tried to get his trophy wife to do it for him, but she was too bossy about how deep the breaths were going to be, so that didn’t work out...

It was planned: Every day Fred Thompson rises at dawn and hits the gym to get himself into shape for the White House race, according to a close confidant.
The fitness drive is part of Thompsons attempt to inject energy into his 2008 presidential bid, which he will launch formally on Thursday.
At 6ft 5in in his gym shoes, the former senator for Tennessee and star of the television series Law & Order is not short on stature, but he has been putting aside time for a personal trainer and is said to be svelte and in tremendous shape.

He seems pretty straight forward on it as far as I can see... The only concerning runner for POTUS to date who actually has used the word "Federalism" in his conveyances. : )

Fred will announce that hes not running. He cant keep up with Mitt Romneys energy. Otherwise, why would he miss the debate?Since that's not the ONLY debate, he won't be missing anything. He'll be in the next one, three weeks from now.
