NY Post ^ | September 3, 2007 | CARL CAMPANILE

Rudy Giuliani - the thrice-married presidential candidate who staunchly supported abortion rights, gun control and gay rights as the Big Apple's mayor - is receiving a surprising level of support from social and religious conservatives.

A recent Diageo/Hotline poll shows Giuliani leading the GOP field among Christian evangelicals and abortion opponents. He beats his nearest rival, ex-Sen. Fred Thompson,

Calling Rudy a Hillary

I wouldnt do that, but is he a Federalist? Will he let the States decide those things the Federal govt has no business meddling in? Like abortion, school vouchers ( I think hes signed up on that one), national health care, gay marriage (fred Thompson's position at the least), voting enforcement and so on? Will he? I am just plain not convinced right now, but thats the make or break issue with me. If everything is negotiable than many will take our chances with a Democrap President we can limit the damage on

Anyone with a brain knows he’s far less dangerous than a liberal dem.

There you go again, with the "lesser of two evils" BS.

We shall see, so far, no one is remotely threatenind his nomination... time will tell. You are welcome to your opinion, but as of now I see no other candidate remotely capable of beating him for the nomination.

Well, if its clear, the polling sure isn’t proving it.... we’ll see how it plays out, but right now, I don’t see anyone beating Rudy for the nomination. Mitt’s a joke, and Thompson is just projectionism.

There are no better choices in the R that have a chance of winning.... and to date the polls pretty much bear it out. Mitt can’t handle a simple heckler asking about his own kids serving without looking like an idiot, Thompson can’t handle a simple question about his advocacy for abortion...

FOlks who don’t like Rudy, better damned well find a candidate who can get more than a few percentage points of the votes.. cause as of right now, there aren’t any, and sure aren’t any on the horizon.

Time will tell what’s going to happen, but right now, there is no one out there, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that’s the facts. Sure, I’d love to see the next Regan show up.. but guess what, there ain’t anyone in this class even close. Rudy’s the man among this crop as it stands, don’t have to like him, but there isn’t anyone even close in this group currently.

hahahahaha, an arrogant leader? because he takes a stand and defends it and doesn’t just pander? Wow... I love your definition of leadership.. pandering in your mind is leadership? Unbelievable.

You want condescended and pandered too, then vote for Thompson or Mitt, they’ve turned that into an art form this cycle. That’s not leadership.

You really believe these polls consistently showing Rudy ahead. You don’t get it, do you. The MSM is fattening Rudy up to be slaughtered if he wins the primaries. That’s why there have been virtually ZERO hit-pieces on Rudy from the MSM, they’re sitting on it and waiting to hear the starter pistol shot from Hillary. In fact, some of the devastating articles on Rudy came from both the right and the hard-core left. Rudy’s support is all media driven from his Faux News buddies.

When Fred declares, rank-and-file Republicans are going to swarm to him. Ron Paul already has a strong network of grassroots disgusted with politics as a whole. I don't see any regular rank-and-filers or grassroots supporting Rudy. It's all execs and GOP insiders.

The most viscious attacks against Rudy, don’t come from the right, sorry guys, they come from the LEFT.. they absolutely dispise the man, he’s more of an anti=christ in their eyes than Bush, especially the ones from NYC. Yet folks keep trying to claim he’s a leftist, which I find comical.

Rudy’s been taking hits for decades by some of the most viscious attacks, and from more media than anyone else running constantly... there’s nothing they can dig up that hasn’t been reported before... they can try to recycle something but hardly is there something new.

Anyone who votes for Rudy might as well vote for a Democrat for that is what his beliefs most resemble.

I don’t think so... Fred’s just a great white hope, he’s been projected on, more than he is. He didn’t even meet his fund raising goals... if he was such a strong grass roots guy he wouldn’t be sitting there with less money than he wanted to raise, and wouldn’t have been two stepping a question about his advocating an abortion rights group or not.

He’s a great white hope, but isn’t remotely living up to it. Telling friendly crowds what they want to hear is not a strong candidate....

If he’s getting a following the money would be there, it hasn’t shown up... More hype and hope and projection onto him than anything.

Yea, ok... lets see Democratic administrations and NYC...

Bankrupt.
Overrun with bums
graphittied subways.
Time Square a cess pool.

Yea, Rudy’s a democrat... please... that’s such nonsensical bs, it makes good rhetoric, but doesn’t stand up to examination. You are free to regurgitate it, but serious folks will just laugh at you, rightly, for it.

He is anti guns
He is pro abortion
He is pro illegal immigrants
He carried on while still married
He is pro gay rights

The list is long and I will not support anyone like him.

The most viscious attacks against Rudy, don’t come from the right, sorry guys, they come from the LEFT.

These are the "honest" left though. Folks from the Village Voice have written some excellent pieces on Rudy. These are real leftists. They're not your typical liberal wussies you see in the DBM.

they absolutely dispise the man, he’s more of an anti=christ in their eyes than Bush, especially the ones from NYC. Yet folks keep trying to claim he’s a leftist, which I find comical.

Again, there's a big difference between the leftists and the POS liberals in the media covering for Rudy now. Rudy was, in fact, on amicable terms with the NYC press. I have more respect for leftists, the green-party types who oppose gloablism, for example, than I do for liberals in the media and Democrat party who smile at you and pretend they're your friend only to stab the shiv in you when you're not looking. If Rudy's nominated, these liberals in the media and Rat party are going to go after him HARD.

Rudy’s been taking hits for decades by some of the most viscious attacks, and from more media than anyone else running constantly... there’s nothing they can dig up that hasn’t been reported before... they can try to recycle something but hardly is there something new.

There's volumes of Rudy here on FR and throughout the Internet. You don't think the media will use it against him? I'm telling you, Rudy needs to be taken out NOW. (A) Conservatives AND Libertarians aren't going to vote for him (B) Liberals will just vote for the Democrat (C) Having marginalized points A & B, Rudy will get crushed in the general by both the Rat and the 3rd party conservative candidate that'll surely rise if he's nominated.

I don’t think so... Fred’s just a great white hope, he’s been projected on, more than he is.

Fred was drafted by the people upset that Rudy McRomney were the front-runners.

He didn’t even meet his fund raising goals... if he was such a strong grass roots guy he wouldn’t be sitting there with less money than he wanted to raise

That doesn't mean a thing. Fred has strong support among rank-and-file Republicans and party activists. Once he declares, his fundraising will go through the roof.

and wouldn’t have been two stepping a question about his advocating an abortion rights group or not.

He handled it rather poorly, but his solid pro-life record in the Senate and subsequent statements on abortion sealed the deal for many conservatives.

If he’s getting a following the money would be there, it hasn’t shown up... More hype and hope and projection onto him than anything.

Dude, seriously. I'm telling you. Rudy has ZERO grassroots support and ZERO internet presence other than his cheesy website. You look at Ron Paul's campaign, he's got people volunteering for him for FREE. People who never voted before or never cared for politics. Rudy is establishment status-quo pure Rockefeller. He's not what the people are looking for and independents and swing voters WILL NOT vote for him.

Many folks acknowledge that Rudy did a good job in NYC. But his style of leadership isn't suitable for the Presidency. His beliefs are at odds with 80% of the nation. And don't give me that "he had to be a liberal in NYC" garbage. If he's a real man (guffaws under breath) he shouldn't have to apologize for being a conservative had he been one.
