Once upon a time, Ted Kennedy could count on his daily dose of veneration. The right wing hated the Massachusetts Democrat, but progressives honored him as a defender of old-school liberalism.
In a remarkable turnaround, liberals are now heaping scorn on the 73-year-old senator. Young audiences boo at his name, and the leftish "Daily Show" on Comedy Central makes fun of him.
The source of unhappiness is Kennedy's efforts to kill an offshore wind farm on Nantucket Sound. Cape Wind was to be the first such project in the United States and a source of pride to environmentally minded New Englanders. Polls show 84 percent of Massachusetts residents in favor. But now it appears that America's first offshore wind farm will be near Galveston, Texas.
Proposed the month before Sept. 11, 2001, Cape Wind remains in limbo. It's been frustrated at every turn by a handful of yachtsmen, Kennedy included, who don't want to see windmills from their verandas. Many millions have been spent spreading disinformation and smearing the wind farm's supporters.
The towers would be at least five miles out and barely visible from shore on the clearest day, but the summer plutocrats resent any intrusion on their waterfront vistas -- and, equally, any challenge to the notion that they control everything.
"But don't you realize -- that's where I sail!" may stand as Kennedy's most self-incriminating quote.

Too bad the scorn didn’t come about 37 years earlier.
the dinosaur needs to become extinct
"But don't you realize -- that's where I sail!" - Teddy Kennedy
How do you label a group of people who want to this to be 1917 Russia, progressive?
I'm not playing into that ploy one bit.
thar she blows! raise the main sail, there is a mighty warm wind a’comin from the stern
I call them leftists, heck I call big government ‘conservatives’ leftist too
This fact should be pushed at every Kennedy supporter as an illustration of his lifelong hypocrisy.
When Deval Patrick became governor of Massachusetts, one of the first things he did was add $30 MILLION to the creation of the "Rose Kennedy Gardens" or whatever the stupid thing is called, a strip of grass and plants and walkway where the old expressway used to be.
Kennedy is taking millions of taxpayer dollars to build a monument to his MOTHER. Not only are there public buildings named for the family of the bootlegger and Nazi-appeaser Joe Kennedy, now there's heaps of money which could go to THE CHIIIILDREN!!!! being poured into a public gardens project which certainly shouldn't be costing this much, and also shouldn't be named for a family which has more than its share of pyramids.
Kennedy "brings home the bacon" in terms of public works projects for the unions--that's all he's ever done to ensure he stays in office. Other than pay-offs, his legacy is such that he would be nothing if he didn't have two murdered brothers, and the cojones to make it seem like we're accomplices after the fact in those murders if we don't vote his drunken, murdering butt into office over and over.
I'm SO glad that he's getting crap for this, a project almost anyone can agree is a good thing, and it's about time the left feels what the rest of us feel about this human embarassment.
LOL. Great to see Teddy K. getting heat, although I have a proposal that would keep his sailing vistas absolutely pristine:
I propose that instead of the wind farm project there be a nuclear power plant sited as close to Hyannisport as possible, maybe even within town limits!!
I don’t think such wind farms offer much hope of making a real dent in out overall electricity needs, but new nuke plants, now that is the way to go!!!!!!
Did you HAVE to post that while I was eating breakfast? :)
I can agree with that. Good for you.
Hey it's a trust fund Baby Huey!
the irony is the 84% in mass that support the wind mill are going to vote for the old wind bag the next time he runs for election. kennedy is not the hypocrite (everyone knows what he’s about), it’s the people who keep on voting for him that are the hypocrites.
I always thought Warner was just another moneyed Rockefeller Republican...and I was right!
As with Orin Hatch, he's in the Rich Senators Club, and they protect their own.
No. We ALL vote for people we don't agree with 100%. I can't think of any politician I've voted for with whom I agreed on every issue.
Kennedy is a hypocrite because he says things like this:
"Kennedy rejected suggestions that he doesn't like the wind farm because it would be near his Cape home, and said the project probably wouldn't be visible from the Kennedy compound. He said he's against the project because it would create a range of environmental and navigational problems and would hurt tourism, one of the area's key industries."

LMAO, good one...
exactly the point. they all know he’s b.s.ing them, but they still will vote for him. what’s the old adage? fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
