Chinese donor sounds like '96 (1996 and 2008 are both "Year of the Rat")

Mrs. Clinton, who gave $23,000 of Mr. Hsu's money to charity, said last week that the case does not appear similar to the 1996 scandal involving a covert effort by China's government to funnel money to President Clinton's re-election campaign. Absolutely, the serial numbers of the bills were not the same as those received in '96.

Gee, I expected her to say it’s just like that other scandal.

"Apparel executive Norman Hsu"
He's referred to this way, but as far as I know no one has been able to find any real company associated with him, and the so-called businesses listed on various forms have thus far proved to be not even real 'front' companies since nothing related turns up at the addresses listed. Have any reporters yet tracked down any real business associated with this man????
"What we saw in 1996 was similar," Mr. Triplett said. "Whenever the Clintons have money trouble, they turn to the Chinese and the Chinese don't let them down. Perhaps it is only a coincidence that both 1996 and 2008 are Years of the Rat in the Chinese calendar."
yes, the YEAR OF THE RAT!! How perfectly appropriate for DemocRAT fundraising scandals.....

It’s funny how THIS year, in the year of the PIG, crapitalists aiding and abetting our enemies in China are going to feel the wrath of the educated consumer.

It’s embarrassing how no news organization has detailed these companies yet. “Nothing is there at address 123 Main St.” is not savvy investigative reporting.

“Mrs. Clinton, who gave $23,000 of Mr. Hsu’s money to charity . . .”
This sounds very strange to me, I mean, that she gave this money to charity. What if that money becomes evidence in a criminal investigation? Will the charity recipients have to forfeit that money?

Good point. Bill Gertz writes in a couple other inaccuracies. Not major, and certainly uncharacterisic for Gertz, but worth mention:
He says, "Clinton, who gave $23,000 of Mr. Hsu's money to charity..."; Unless Gertz has confirmation of that--and if he does, why doesn't he provide details as to the charity?--the accurate statement is, "Clinton, who said she was going to give $23,000 of Mr. Hsu's money to charity..."
Also: "Apparel executive Norman Hsu, who turned himself in last week to authorities in California to face fraud charges..." No. He turned himself in to face charges for failing to appear for sentencing for the fraud charges on which he was convicted.

A good question. Maybe the money should have been used for restitution for the victims.

And, just like in 1996, the media will studiously ignore the scandal, or publicize only the Clintons’ side of it,
and nothing will come of it.

When Controversy Follows Cash Sant S. Chatwal, an Indian American businessman, has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaigns, even as he battled governments on two continents to escape bankruptcy and millions of dollars in tax liens....
I'm surprised that WaPo had this on the front page.

What do you think?I don't know, but there are fears that with her at the top of the ticket all of the neoCOMs will do poorly on Election Day.
