“Out Of Context,” Or, How To Argue With A Muslim
http://www.newenglishreview.org/custpage.cfm/frm/10467/sec_id/10467 ^ | Ibn Warraq

It is quite common to hear two arguments from Muslims and apologists of Islam, the language argument, and that old standby of crooked, lying politicians, “you have quoted out of context.”

Let us look at the language argument first. You are asked aggressively, ‘do you know Arabic?’ Then you are told triumphantly, ‘You have to read it in the original Arabic to understand it fully’. Christians, even Western freethinkers and atheists are usually reduced to sullen silence with these Muslim tactics; they indeed become rather coy and self-defensive when it comes to criticism of Islam; they feebly complain “who am I to criticise Islam? I do not know any Arabic.” And yet freethinkers are quite happy to criticise Christianity. How many Western freethinkers and atheists know Hebrew? How many even know what the language of Esra chapter 4 verses 6-8 is? Or in what language the New Testament was written?

Of course, Muslims are also free in their criticism of the Bible and Christianity without knowing a word of Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek.

How To Argue With A Muslim

Don't argue about religion. Simply state what you believe and why.

‘do you know Arabic?’

Why yes, yes I do. And I have read parts of the Koran in the original language. I have also read books of the Bible in Arabic too.

‘Or in what language the New Testament was written?’

Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

You may think you've read Hamlet before, but you can't really appreciate it until you've read it in the original Klingon.

What a minute.

It is Muslims who are waving the Koran around while cutting off the heads of innocent victims.

When Christians identify Islam as the Religion of Death, it can’t be too far out of context.

Ultimately there is no debating a muslim. It is a matter of faith and the laws of Mohammad are what they are.

The Imam will tell you that Mohammad was infinitely wise and you are not to question why or what of Islam (including child brides, slavery, and holy war).

Sit down, shut up, and submit.

Ironic that they take the rewritten texts of the Bible that are represented in the koran as the “real deal” because Mohammed, a warlord, said so. So much so that you have to reject the Judeo-Christian Bible (which has been consistent in transcription) and read it in the “original” koranic arabic instead.

If the intent of the words of the Koran may be interpolated from the actions it drives Muslims to take, then the words of the Koran must be violent indeed in the original Arabic.

Or maybe it is just the Arabic language that is so full of hate and barbarism.

May they drown in the dung of a thousand diarrheic camels.

That sounds pretty bad even in English.

Actions speak louder than words. I don’t need to know Arabic, because I can evaluate the religion based upoin the actions of its members.

‘You have to read it in the original Arabic to understand it fully’. Christians, even Western freethinkers and atheists are usually reduced to sullen silence with these Muslim tactics; they indeed become rather coy and self-defensive when it comes to criticism of Islam; they feebly complain “who am I to criticise Islam? I do not know any Arabic.”

Here is my response to this tactic:

"Excuse me, Mr. Muslim, but I have a life, so forgive me if I don't feel like devoting the next several years of it to learning Arabic and then studying the Koran just to find out whether the clear evidence of my own eyes is accurate when it comes to the hundreds of millions of Muslims who proclaim and demonstrate that they want to kill me and destroy my beloved country.

"Moreover, in the event that I did put in the time to learn Arabic and study the Koran, and did come to the conclusion that it is indeed a peaceful non-violent religion, am I then supposed to judge that all the self-proclaimed Muslims in the world who take a different viewpoint are therefore not true Muslims?

"If I am put into the position of having to decide who is and who isn't really a Muslim in order to protect all that I hold dear, are you willing to abide by that judgment, and to allow me to treat such non-Muslims in a way that would deny them the ability to "hijack" the Muslim faith by depriving them of its trappings, customs and practices?

"May we kill them freely, without worrying that you will take our necessary actions as an attack on your own pure and true faith?

"I am not going to get into that kind of pointless and time consuming exercise, Mr. Muslim.

"So let's cut to the chase. It is very clear to anyone who cares to look that the Muslim world is riddled with the fatal disease of violent Islam, and frankly, it is up to the Muslim world to clean up the problem and contain the disease.

"Since it has failed to do that, and continues to fail to do that, then don't blame me if my own self-preservation and the self-preservation of our nation requires that we at last quarantine the disease, and fight it aggressively where ever its failure to contain its millions of psychopaths represents a threat to me and mine.

And if in fact, the Muslim world is so terminally ill with hatred and violence that it cannot contain this threat by itself, then don't fault me when I come to the obvious conclusion that it will have to be sacrificed to destroy the virus once and for all."

Usually the first thing thatr comes out of my mouth is why do i need to learn to read arabic when i see you living a slavish life because of your religion i see your hipocracy in your actions they speek louder than any words you could tout about allah !

Then after they stop screaming and stomping their feet i say { see told ya so !}

Since they claim they know what the Koran really says in it’s original language, my response is do they denounce the examples of oppression, intolerance, and violent acts done in the name of their religion?

There is. of course, one simple answer to that: a religious faith that aspires to be accepted by all of humanity must be available in the various languages of the world. Other- wise the faith is merely the peculiar expression of one ethnic group or region.
The Christian faith spends millions each year translating the Bible into every conceivable language known.
