And if you build it, Republicans will turn out to vote..And if you don't, they won't.
(Just ask Speaker Pelosi...)

The GOP and elected Republicans in Texas need to quit ignoring the planks set forth by the party in Texas.
Too many RINOs spoil the leadership.

After reading all the âdiscussionâ I call for a Hunter - Thomson debate. A real debate, media asking questions, maybe the public, with a reasonable time limit for each candidate to state their position and rebut.

Excellent post, delighted to see Hunter win it, and yes, Fred will be the next President.

I'm still laughing over the fact the Paulistinians haven't trotted this "poll" out yet as a sure sign of his "popularity".
Oh yoo-hoo!! Paulbots?!?! Where are you???

Hunter won because only 3rd-tier candidates showed up. Whoop tee doo. What’s more interesting is that Mr. Paul didn’t have a better showing. Could be because Texans are wise to Paul.

“California congressman Duncan Hunter won Texas’ first Republican Party Straw Poll on Saturday in a low-turnout event that lacked the top-tier presidential candidates.”
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/09/01/hunter_wins_texas_straw_poll/
Ron Paul can’t even win in his own state, with the top tiered candidates not even participating. Has anyone called the end of Paul campaign yet? If not, can I?
Please?

The event ended up being a showcase for Texas Congressman Ron Paul and California Congressman Duncan Hunter. Expectations were high for Ron Paul, and no doubt his supporters are disappointed by his third place showing.
Guess I was surprised that Paul did as well as 3rd place but maybe his supporters expected more. Hunter did extremely well.
But the bottom line of this event is that it represents the Republican Primary voter and that election outcome about like an apple represents an orange. The two are vastly different.

The fact that Senator Fred Thompson came in second and, since he is not yet an official candidate, did absolutely nothing to try to win this straw poll, demonstrates his undeniable appeal to the party faithful.
Yep. The "party faithful" are so desirous to reincarnate Ronald Reagan and Fred come the closest of anyone since the GOP Glory Days of the '80s.

Duncan Hunter mentions that wall in San Diego about as often as John Kerry mentioned his “service” in Viet Nam.

Duncan Hunter had some prominent mention on FoxNews Sunday with Chris Wallace today for winning the Texas straw pole. I think it was the third story featured.
There was also some talk of 'economic populism' among the candidates by Robt.Reich and George Will on ABC's This Week, but I missed it. It might have mentioned Hunter and Huckabee on the subject.
The Hunter surge continues ... check the next 40 days.
