The Birth of al Qaedastan

In the year 2016, the world may find itself gloomily marking September 6 as the tenth anniversary of the creation of the Islamic Emirate of Waziristan. The Emirate received de facto recognition when the Taliban used the name on the ceasefire agreement they signed with Pakistan on that day in 2006. If things go terribly wrong in the coming decade, they could come to rule a mountainous fragment of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Emirate would be a nightmare state: Osama bin Laden as sultan, Ayman al Zawahiri as vizier, and Mullah Omar the spiritual leader. An economy built on smuggling and heroin. Primary export: terrorism. Welcome to ‘Al Qaedastan’.

Analysts say the rise of a terrorist state straddling the rugged area between Pakistan and Afghanistan is now viable. The reason is a number of troubling trends. One, the revival of a Taliban firmly in the control of Al Qaeda. Two, the seeming inability of either Kabul or Islamabad to defeat the new threat militarily. Sheikh’s assassination a “tragic loss”: US

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon said the assassination on Thursday of a leading Sunni sheikh in al-Anbar province was a “tragic loss” but expressed hope the movement he led against Al Qaeda will survive him.

Sheikh Sattar Abu Reesha was killed by a roadside bomb that struck his convoy in the provincial capital of Ramadi at the start of Ramadan, police said.

“Despite the tragic loss of Sheikh Sattar, he has ignited a movement that will outlive him,” said Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell.

The sheikh was among a group of tribal sheikhs who met with President George W. Bush last week during his surprise visit to Al-Anbar last week.

Morrell said the sheikh was a “driving force” in the so-called Anbar Awakening, the name given to a shift by tribal leaders against Al Qaeda and in favour of US forces.

“He clearly spearhead the movement and it is a tragic loss,” he said.

Three bodyguards were killed in the attack, Pentagon officials said.

The sheikh initially was protected by US forces who parked an M-1 tank in front of his house and trained his bodyguards and security forces. But Morrell said responsibility for his security had passed to his own people.

Fox News has just issued an alert. There is a manhunt in Dade County, FL going on right now for a man with an AK-47. There have been LEOs injured. He is described as a white man with short hair and a full beard.

This manhunt is ongoing.

Fox has just reported that there were 4 officers injured, and that the suspect is black, not white. His name is Kevin Cutler and they have run a photo. Homeland Security and Customs officials are reportedly on the scene.

I have not heard that he was drugged, but they do report that he was originally noticed driving erratically. When they attempted to stop him for questioning, he got out of his vehicle, started shooting an AK-47, and then took off.

They found his vehicle along with the AK-47 a short time later, but he is still at large.

Air marshal loses a gun at the airport
Sept. 13, 2007

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Airport Police said a .40-caliber pistol found by a limo driver at the Airport belongs to a federal air marshal. Limousine driver Perry L. Williams found the handgun Wednesday and immediately gave it to authorities, said The Indianapolis Star.

The police report said the .40-caliber handgun was in a small black case and was secured with a trigger lock. The gun was then traced to the U.S. Air Marshal's Service, where officials said it was assigned to a 42-year-old marshal from Ohio, said Airport Police Officer Robert Gyorkos, the newspaper said. Airport Police Chief Bill Reardon said the gun would likely be returned to federal authorities.

The suspect in Fla. is not the one we originally were looking at. The suspect we are looking for stole the ID of Kevin Wehrner with the beard. We are looking for the clean shaven guy, Shawn Labeet, 25.
