FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - California congressman Duncan Hunter has won Texas' first Republican Party Straw Poll.
Hunter got 534 votes. Former Tennessee senator and actor Fred Thompson came in second with 266 votes, and Texas congressman Ron Paul came in third with 217 votes.
The low-turnout event in Fort Wroth lacked the top-tier presidential candidates.
Other candidates attending were Chicago businessman John Cox, counterterrorism expert Hugh Cort of Birmingham, Ala., and tool & die maker Ray McKinney of Savannah, Ga.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Arizona Senator John McCain, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee skipped the event. Thompson didn't show up either. He is expected to declare his candidacy next week.

So are they saying that, in his home state, Ron Paul trailed an unannounced candidate in a straw poll?

“The low-turnout event in Fort Wroth”
Maybe the low turnout was cause voters went to Fort Worth instead of Fort Wroth ???

That's good news to me...I would like to see a Thompson/Hunter ticket in 2008 and Hunter head the ticket in 2012, he will still be relatively young.
