Court: Mexican trucks program to proceed (9th Circus says 'Let 'em roll!')

SAN FRANCISCO - The Bush administration can go ahead with a pilot program to allow as many as 100 Mexican trucking companies to freely haul their cargo anywhere within the U.S. for the next year, a federal appeals court ruled Friday.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request made by the Teamsters union, the Sierra Club and the nonprofit Public Citizen to halt the program.

The appeals court ruled the groups have not satisfied the legal requirements to immediately stop what the government is calling a "demonstration project," but can continue to argue their case.

The trucking program is scheduled to begin Thursday.

In court papers filed earlier this week, the Teamsters and Sierra Club argued there won't be enough oversight of the drivers coming into the U.S. from Mexico.

They also argued that public safety would be endangered in a hasty attempt by the government to comply with parts of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The trade agreement requires that all roads in the United States, Mexico and Canada to be opened to carriers from all three countries.

Canadian trucking companies have full access to U.S. roads, but Mexican trucks can only travel about 20 miles inside the country at certain border crossings such as ones in San Diego and El Paso, Texas.

"Time to quit worshipping the Pres and see who really at fault here."

I don't worship Bush. I have very big disagreements with him on various fronts. Men can't hate a guy that tells you up front what he's going to do. He's simply wrong. And out of touch. What would make him think differently is if he spent a week around Pacoima, Van Nuys, Panorama City or North Hollywood incognito. Ann Coulter says they are an example of Bush's roach motels.

Sorry, I was a little over the top. I’m just mad as hell and hoping I’m not alone.

Fact is, we can place blame on virtually every one of our elected leaders for the past 50 yrs or more. There has been a master agenda in place, slowly working toward their goals, for as long as most of us have been on this planet. We are just now, through the power of the Internet, seeing the fruits of their efforts.

I don’t know how but, in order to remain the Home of the Free, we must learn to be brave.

I don’t care what anyone says about President Bush and his “tough stance” on the WOT. As long as he treats Homeland security as a joke, he is not serious about the WOT. I am much more worried about terrorists actually entering my Country, which this ruling almost assures, than I am about anything happening in the ME.

Geez. What a BASHBUSH fest.

We could close the borders. Every one of them.

We could search every package. Transfer goods from Canadian or Mexican trucks into American trucks.

We could inspect every bit of food that goes to Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut.

We could run every bit of luggage, and every person through a complex of machines designed to ferret out any potential weapons.

We can inspect every piece of cargo on every ship in the harbour, and onshore.

Of course, a six pack of toilet paper will be $12.00.
Tires for the average car, $400 per tire.
Large box of laundry soap .... $32.00
AND A TACO...... still a DOLLAR.
(Sauce will be $1.00 a pack,though)

This trucking is being opened so that Canadian and Mexican Trucking can get their goods to market faster and cheaper.

This means prices on food and household goods can go down.

Kansas City contracted for the hub of the trucking. A huge trucking facility is being built specifically for the Mexican trade.

For those who would complain about the goods, sorry, it’s the same goods you buy now, you just pay more.

And the price of gas isn’t likely to go down, so what will help the American Economy?

What will happen is that the Mexican big rigs will end up having to be just as compliant as American trucks, instead o f being able to roam 100 miles past the Mexican border without inspection.

We are fighting for our freedom. This means the freedom to travel to other countries, and not have to duck missiles. This means the freedom to trade openly with friendly nations, and specify trade policies, and have a better STANDARD of LIVING.

Hiding in bomb shelters, scared to let anyone in or out of the country, robbed of all our money by graft, greed, and corruption, is not what I call being FREE.

We will only end up being slaves of other masters.
A locked up, scared populace is just what the Terrorists like.

On September 11, 2001 our president could have closed down our borders.

Can I modify that?

On September 11, 2001 our president should have closed down our borders.

So I wonder how many Americans will have to be injured and killed for this program to end?

No matter how many are injured or killed, it will likely be increased instead of stopped. Illegal aliens kill and injure thousands of Americans every year - and our government couldn't care less.

For those who would complain about the goods, sorry, it’s the same goods you buy now, you just pay more.

Do you really think that because companies will be getting their goods transported cheaper, they'll pass the savings onto the customer? Fat chance. Houses here are built soley by illegal aliens. And house prices have done nothing but soar out of control - with the companies making huge profits. While the citizens have to pay the exorbitant prices AND pay for the illegals' health care, food stamps, education for their children, etc.

Hiding in bomb shelters, scared to let anyone in or out of the country, robbed of all our money by graft, greed, and corruption, is not what I call being FREE.

Is that how you're living? Sounds like you're back in the cold war era. You need to come out of your bomb shelter and realize that 40 years have passed. Anyone here is free to leave - this isn't the USSR or East Germany. But we do need to limit who comes into the country. Having a porous southern border and having no clue who the millions of unknowns are in this country is ridiculous.

Lord help those who are driving alongside these trucks.

Wouldn't state troopers pull over a truck that isn't safe?

A contrast in presidential stupidity. Jimmy Carter gave away the Panama Canal to Panama then Panama gave it to China. The Smirking Chimp Bush has gave away the United States of America to Mexico, China, U.N. etc. Truly history will judge these as being the worst presidents to ever hold that office. President George W Bush, Lyndon Baines Johnson, Bill Clinton, and James Earl Carter should have never even been elected to any national office. The GOP house and senate DEMs and Republicans are cowards for not calling Bush in on the carpet on his open borders and trade policies.

The hose and senate have failed their duty in checks and balances. No More Rockefeller Republicans for President and no more Bush family long time friends for any office. Bill Clinton or Bush? Politically they will be judged as one in the same in history. Enough of the wretched Republican Kennedy’s. May this nation be fortunate enough never to see the name Bush in a national office again.

...he is also trying his damndest to eliminate those same borders and turn us into one big happy North American family.

You should read "America Alone" by Mark Steyn. There is a demographic tidal wave headed towards us and if we are going to survive we will need our neighbors to the south.
