SAN FRANCISCO - The Bush administration can go ahead with a pilot program to allow as many as 100 Mexican trucking companies to freely haul their cargo anywhere within the U.S. for the next year, a federal appeals court ruled Friday.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request made by the Teamsters union, the Sierra Club and the nonprofit Public Citizen to halt the program.
The appeals court ruled the groups have not satisfied the legal requirements to immediately stop what the government is calling a "demonstration project," but can continue to argue their case.
The trucking program is scheduled to begin Thursday.
In court papers filed earlier this week, the Teamsters and Sierra Club argued there won't be enough oversight of the drivers coming into the U.S. from Mexico.
They also argued that public safety would be endangered in a hasty attempt by the government to comply with parts of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
The trade agreement requires that all roads in the United States, Mexico and Canada to be opened to carriers from all three countries.
Canadian trucking companies have full access to U.S. roads, but Mexican trucks can only travel about 20 miles inside the country at certain border crossings such as ones in San Diego and El Paso, Texas.
No comment (lol) :)
It would be nice if the Teamsters got old school about it. Blockade style ....

They had “worth” back in the olden days,,,
I wonder if there any of the “head-knockers” left...
BullShit!~!!...
Bush only nominated the Supreme Court Justices. The president can only nominate judges, the senate confirms them. The president only “appoints” judges under certain well defined circumstances and in the end the Senate need to confirm them or the are out.
We are not at the level of an admin hack meaning it is in the courts hands now. So which Bush appointees are you talking about? If you recall recent history, though talk of NAFTA started under previous (republican) presidents, NAFTA was enacted under CLINTON.
Maybe a whole pile of politicians (republican and democrat) going way back got their pockets lined along the way. So blame probably crosses all levels of politicians and parties.
You had natural allies right here and elswhere you could have counted on to stand right beside you. Consider it a lost battle in a war. Just wait. There are accident-prone freeway interchanges around here. The 405/101, I-14/I-5, etc. Sepulveda Pass and the Ventura FWY on the big hill between PKWY Calabasas and Las Virgenes Rd. Big wrecks before this weekend. Just observe what happens now.
Almost 20 years ago when a company I worked for at the time was dispatching shipments of goods cross country, CA wouldn't allow our owner-operator's trucks into the state which didn't have an emergency air pressure system to release the spring brakes that lock the wheels if an air line or tank loses pressure. Some of our drivers had to drop their trailers at the CA POE and have CA trucks pick them up to finish delivery.
I suppose by now all American long haul trucks probably have that system installed at the factory, but I doubt that very many of the old and poorly maintained Mexican trucks have it. I guess CA will be forced to let them in even though American trucks without it can't get past the CA POE.
As you can see I'm way out of touch with the trucking industry today, so this brake release matter may not even be relevant nowadays.
He Donât Buy This Krap Either...;0) (Harley Hikes His Leg In Their General Direction)...;0)

Hasty? This has been in the works since the 1980’s
Yes, I get it. I’m referring to the Supreme Court.
“If you recall recent history, though talk of NAFTA started under previous (republican) presidents, NAFTA was enacted under CLINTON.

Yes, it’s been both sides of the isle, and it’s been a long time coming. I’m not naive to that. I also don’t give Republicans a pass. I’m a Conservative and Patriot first.
How did I get to point that I have no objections to anything you suggest?
Show him the decal so he’ll recognize it (lol)
Don't you dare pee in my teacup like that. Your democrat congress makes laws, not the President. And they have done NOTHING about ANYTHING. All they are good at is hating Bush like little girls.
Human cargo, disease, drugs by the tons, tainted products, terrorist, weapons, prostitutes, unsafe products, counterfeit money and Lord knows what else.
Did I miss something? Is this no Bush’s proposal and project? If you’re worried about getting your tea-cup pissed in, flip it over, that’s not my problem.
“Your democrat congress makes laws, not the President.”
You were saying the Teamsters were at fault, but now you’re faulting the congress?
His actions as president have been so devastating to the American middle class that there is no way to defend the man.
His globalist handlers must be very proud of their puppet.
Yeowza...
And he's not done yet. I'll be honest, when I wake up in the morning, I fear turning on the radio, wondering what's next.
OK. I’ll bite. What is a “full unzip” to a dry van?
WHAT!!!
