Two Egyptian students at the University of South Florida were indicted Friday for carrying explosive materials across states lines and one of them was charged with teaching the other how to use them for violent reasons.
Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed, 24, an engineering graduate student and teaching assistant at the Tampa-based university, faces terrorism charges for teaching and demonstrating how to use the explosives.
He and Youssef Samir Megahed, 21, an engineering student, were stopped for speeding in Goose Creek, S.C., on Aug. 4, where they have been held on state charges.
The two men were stopped with pipe bombs in their car near a Navy base in South Carolina where enemy combatants have been held. They were held on state charges while the FBI continued to investigate whether there was a terrorism link.

pipe bombs are only dangerous in the hands of christian right wingers, not muslim right wingers. /s
Here is an EXCERPT:
...Two Florida college students of Middle Eastern descent had been accused of having pipe bombs in their car. Who were they? What was in that car? And most puzzling, what were tourists doing on Highway 176?"It's definitely a way-back road," Mrs. King said.
"Most people wouldn't even think about coming that way," her husband added. "It's a direct line to the naval base, for what it's worth..."

...The FBI seized the Megahed family computers and searched a Temple Terrace home - one connected to both Mohamed and Sami Al-Arian, a former University of South Florida professor once accused of funding terrorist organizations.
The Goose Creek mayor said Tuesday he has inside information that he can't discuss....-- snip --
...Prosecutors say they are still trying to determine what the men were doing, where they were headed.
"That's the unusual part," said Frank Hunt, a spokesman for the Solicitor's Office. "They said they were going to North Carolina on the way to the beach.
Well, that's not the way to North Carolina."
As soon as they got near the base they were stopped for "speeding". Ever had your car searched by the cops for speeding? I haven't.
I don’t believe a word of this nonsense. Everyone knows they adhere to the religion of peace.

I guess it depends on how big the pipes are or how many. Sewer pipe size? Or a thousand the size of your kitchen drain?
Pipe bombs are for baby terrorists. Easy to make and a good device to see if the student is ready to graduate to more sophisticated devices....like suicide vests and IEDs. The ones who fail all have the same nickname: Stumpy.
Most pipe bombs are made with black power. Very susceptible to the slightest shock of current. Even static electricity (like when the threaded end caps are tightened) can cause an unplanned detonation. Low scoring students forget to smear Vaseline on the threads of the end caps and hence earn their nicknames.
I’m sorry for giving him too much credit.
LOL, I had to stop myself when I posted. This was of course the media’s explanation of what the FBI is doing. I’m sure they are investigating a lot more than if this was terrorist related. It may have been stand alone, but there’s no question it was terrorist related. I’m sure the FBI is looking hard for any indication of network related aspects of this.

Uh yeah, they set them off here and celebrate on the West Bank.
From Starwise's post above: The federal investigation is separate from South Carolina charges over explosives found in their car trunk near the Goose Creek Naval Weapons Station, where terror suspects have been held.
So basically what you’re saying is that I failed to reference my left wing decoder ring. You may have a point there... ;)

Were they, by any chance, muslims at all?
If I’m not mistaken the article did not use the words “Muslim” or “Islam”...
These people are devout muslims. To suggest that a muslim could be capable of violence is really not multiculturally nice.
Please go sit in a corner and then report to the UN for the next US financed muslim “jihad is ok Ollie” reeducation class to correct your repulsive ideas.
Or face immediate deportation by your friends in the State Dept to a peace loving community in the mideast.
How do they figure that homemade pipe bombs are “weapons of mass destruction”? I thought that term was reserved for something else entirely.
