SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Authorities said they removed nearly 80,000 rounds of ammunition from the home of a South Bend man who warned that the world was going to end.
South Bend police and federal agents blocked off streets around Kevin Rieder's home for six hours Wednesday while they removed the ammunition.
Rieder, 38, was arrested Wednesday and charged with illegal possession of ammunition while subject to a restraining order, Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald Schmidt said.
The restraining order had been taken out by an ex-girlfriend, Schmidt said.
Rieder told employees at a gun shop where he bought 18,000 rounds that he believed the world was going to end, officials said.
He was in custody Friday morning, awaiting a Tuesday bail and detention hearing.

"Rieder, 38, was arrested Wednesday and charged with illegal possession of ammunition while subject to a restraining order."No mention of a gun, just the ammo in this article.
What the hell is this place coming to?

OK, fess up. Which Freeper is this? Could be Squantos if they only confiscated the ammo in the hall closet. Guess they didn't find the 40' ISO high cube buried in the backyard.

looks like 62,000 rounds is ok by the feds

The restraining order had been taken out by an ex-girlfriend, Schmidt said. No mention of why or anything else? I smell vindictive ex-girlfriend, if she even was a "girlfriend" to begin with.

Serious question: Is ammo illegal in Indiana in certain quantities? Is it okay to own 80 rounds but not 80,000?
Odd to have 80,000 rounds? You bet. But I’d still like to understand what legal justification was used for taking the man’s ammo.

The guy was just a speculator, poised to make a monetary killing when the price of ammo jumps - once again - later in the year. The stuff about “the world is going to end” is just a bunch of hyped-up advertising to increase demand for his product before it hits the market.
At least that’s what I’d say if I was his attorney.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Authorities said they removed nearly 80,000 rounds of ammunition from the home of a South Bend man who warned that the world was going to end. But that wasnt the cause for the removal - he violated the terms of a restraining order
I know folks with half that amount who feel the same way - no law broken.......much to the dismay of democrats
To: Abathar
So a persons 2nd amendment rights are suspended under a restraining order? Any other right suspended?

I guess if there is a restraining order out on you they can take your guns and ammo, which is news to me. I don’t think there is any limit to ammo though, my local gun dealer will sell it to you until you run out of money, but he never asks how much I have to begin with.

People really need to think about what they're doing before they store 80,000 rounds of ammo at the house...
...prepositioning it in multiple, off-site, secure caches is a better plan and offers a lot more flexibility.
