The Evesham school board last night voted 7-1 to stop showing third graders a controversial educational video that includes depictions of families headed by same-sex couples. The vote came after a committee of scholars and educators, appointed by the board to review the issue, recommended keeping the video in the curriculum, but showing it to fourth graders, instead of to third graders, as had been done.
But after a number of board members spoke against the film, the board did away with the video, called That's a Family, altogether.
The half-hour video shows children explaining their various family structures, including those with mixed-race couples and divorced, single and adoptive parents.
Jeanne Smith, a spokeswoman for the board, said: "The opinions expressed by members of the board against the video dealt with their worry that the video had become so divisive that it would continue to inflame the district and that there would be no healing."
In a survey of the issue, district parents were split nearly half and half on the issue, she said
Reacting to last night's vote, Steven Goldstein, chairman of the gay civil rights group Garden State Equality, said: "It's very likely that we in the civil rights community will take legal action to have the committee's recommendation to show this film enforced. We believe the board's actions are illegal."
Evesham started showing the video last school year as part of a state-mandated health curriculum, which requires students to "identify different kinds of families and explain that families may differ for many reasons."
The segment of That's a Family on same-sex couples, however, drew the ire of many parents who objected to their children learning about homosexuality in schools.

"You don't have to be a rat to marry a rat. You can be a mouse and marry a rat."
Well now we know they aren't studying genetics in science/biology classes.
Did you watch the propaganda in post 65? Wish FR had a rolling eye gif!
So, want to be a fly on the wall when the Jewish/Muslim couple goes to family reunions - for EITHER side??
A fly? On the wall? With my luck that would be the bullet riddled wall. LOL
I know people from this town and none of them want this film shown. I remember going through this last year. Garden State Equality & Steven Goldstein are a powerful group that will not stop until this movie is shown in every school that they can bully into showing it. IMHO it is not the school or the government’s job to teach any child about what a family is , about sex or many other things. Unless more parents speak up before this film comes to their school it will be shown. I saw clips of it and it all looks innocent with grandparents raising grandchildren then you see a gay couple & they say we are a family etc. However why on earth do our children need to know about gay families in grade school? If the gays are so d@mn worried that their children are suffering from other children making fun of them then maybe they ought to start their own schools. I think for the most part kids at that age don’t give a d@mn if Sara has two mommies or Billy has two daddies. I think its selfish of the gays to push their lifestyle on the rest of us. I know my daughter isn’t going on playdates over their houses. I don’t let her go to houses anyway where I don’t already know the parents. Too much crazy stuff goes on with people who aren’t Gay so my child stays in our neighborhood where we all know each other. If a teen is gay I don’t understand why they have to bring it to school either. I really believe that what you do is your business & if you want to be gay or have a family then keep it out of the school ...
Do I have to watch any of this s***t to qualify that I don’t agree??
Monkeys boink monkeys, birds boink birds, people of the opposite sex make babies....
Next lesson????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been up for days, please let your flames //////...

At least that is the way I took it. Maybe someone else saw it another way. It was odd though.
No need for any flaming. We are all adults and conservative ones at that. The fact that you don't like it isn't a reason for me to dump on you. The fact that I just don't see it as porn isn't a reason to dump on me. But I think we both agree it is unnecessary to be shown in an elementary school.
Poobear,
I’m not flaming you. I just thought I’d post a link to the video clips so that everyone could check them out. I do think a lot of the propaganda given to kids today under the guise of “health education” is pornographic. You don’t have to watch the clips; we’ll let you know what’s on them.
...and this in health class,no less. One wonders whether the mortality statistics of homosexuals are discussed,or the AIDS,TB and syphilis epidemics, not to mention the obsessive-compulsive behavior that characterizes this “lifestyle”.Too much for a third or fourth grader to digest?Obviously! These NEA members should be teaching these kids how to read.
I finally got around to watching the clips myself. Of course, we’re only seeing the clips they want us to see. I don’t know how far the rest of the film goes. I doubt it discusses sexual content in graphic detail, but it might go further into what “gay” or “lesbian” means...
I never assume anymore that children’s books and videos will be appropriate.
This group produces other films, too. On the lefthand sidebar, there are films such as “Straightlaced” intended for teens. The photos and captions for that one are rather interesting:

It’s obvious what the group “Respect for All” is all about. Homosexuality is overrepresented in their videos. The casting call for Straightlaced says it all:

So, they start out in third or fourth grade with a video telling kids it’s OK to have two mommies or two daddies. Then later they show them the other film, I guess.
Kudos to Evesham parents for fighting this video, but the fight must continue...
We recently had "The Talk" with our 11yo (homeschooled) son. He always did well in science, and human reproduction is a topic of science. We presented the subject simply and handed him a book (that we reviewed first) on the human body. That's how it should be done in schools. Confusing kids with this other nonsense is crazy.
Thought you’d find this amusing. Here’s the press release on this story from the group that produced the video:

I too wish they would get back into the closet. And stay out of the bathrooms. However they aren’t going to. They are going to just keep pushing their gay lifestyle on the rest of us. What bothers me the most is the fact they now go after the children. If they start telling them gay is ok at an early age it will become more acceptable ...The day that movie or any of Garden State Equality’s movies are shown in my child’s school I will keep my child home. So will most of the parents I know. After a big protest too.
And before I get any posts about infertility, a man and a woman occasionally can't have children. A man/man-woman/woman NEVER will.
The parents were split 50-50 on the decision? That is surprising and disturbing.
That depends on if your goal is social engineering or education.
Yup. It's PC indoctrination plain and simple. Government has no business socializing the populace much less it's children. Gooberment can STFU and secure our borders.
