Des Moines, Iowa (AP) --
Republican Fred Thompson, whose entry into the presidential race has been long anticipated, will officially launch his candidacy Sept. 6 in a webcast on his campaign site, followed by a five-day tour of early primary states, The Associated Press has learned.
The preliminary campaign of the former Tennessee senator and "Law & Order" actor is to disclose details about how he will formally enter the race in a Thursday afternoon conference call with supporters.
House parties will be held nationwide on Sept. 6. A tour of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina will quickly follow the Internet announcement on , with later stops in Florida, and a homecoming event in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on Sept. 15.
On Wednesday, Thompson will appear on NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" but he won't participate with his Republican rivals in a debate that same night in New Hampshire.

Bush43 never mislead Republicans. We just weren’t sure how much of a big govt Republican he really was. Turns out Bush has been very liberal on the spending side, expanding the welfare state and immigration reform.
FredT supports a more limited govt. He’s a federalist and that by defintion means he’ll look at every issue to see if it belongs in the purview of the states, or belongs as a federal issue. Following the Founders original intent is critical to limited govt.
“July 2007 - LOS ANGELES - If Fred Thompson makes it official and throws his hat in the ring for President, NBC will pull future reruns of “Law & Order” featuring the actor after Sept. 1, executive producer Dick Wolf said yesterday.Wolf, reading from an official NBC statement yesterday, said the rule applies when a person legally qualifies as a candidate”
I hope the USA channel does the same thing. I hate L&O, I think it’s that grating “Ching-Ching” audio hook they use for emphasis.
More feet-staming demands from the anti-Fred trolls. They aren’t missing a thread anymore, LOL!
Thompson to Announce Bid Sept. 6
and be in a debate in late September? First polls in October ought to be interesting.
“Shows that hes still an actor and nothing more”
Yeah, tell that the corrupt TN. Governor he took down, President Nixon, and the people of TN who elected him twice as Senator.
” From here on out it will be Rudy vs Fred so choose your side.”
You nailed that, its a two man race now. I’m pulling for Fred.
“Also, don’t Republicans deserve somebody who understands how very bad it will be for Hillary to be the president and is willing to show up a little “early” to work to see that does not happen?”
BWAHAHA! ~That~ is funny. Thanks for the laugh.
I call misleading voters when most of whom voted for him will not do it again.
“Have any of these early, absurd game show looking debates served any purpose, other than for the candidates to primp and strut?”
They provided a forum for Obama to make several controversial statements on foreign policy, and his support seems to have deteriorated up to 10 points. Hillary now seems in command unless something happens to change the momentum.
And they serve to allow the eight or more candidates a few debates until the also rans thin out. I doubt we will or should deny them entry in early debates, but hopefully the process will be down to three or so viable candidates by November or December.
Even though they’re pretty boring, with the way the primaries are now scheduled, it’s probably good to start early and thin out the candidates some before the post-New Hampshire primaries are held.
Please tell me how Fred Thompson being absent from the Fox debate has harmed his chances of being elected?
OK, so what everyone remembers about these early debates is “how bad” one or more candidates did.
Thompson avoiding these pre-season debates was a brilliant campaign strategy.
I sure hope so. Without making his run official, FredT was able to knock down Rooty`s support over the last few months. A goal supported by conservatives. If FredT can convince most Republicans he's the real deal, good chance he'll be the GOP nominee.

I guess they could also remember how well someone did. A candidate can blow or almost win it in a field of eight, or when it’s down to two in the general election, such as several famous flubs made by Ford, or Reagan’s he won’t hold Mondale’s youth and inexperience against him, Dukakais’ wimpy response to what he’d due if his wife were raped.
Great answers or terrible answers can probably have an impact in the earliest and latest debates.
How was that an "early debate?"
I hate their nasty liberal anti-american, anti-military, anti-Christian themes. I like Fred but the sooner he brushes that trash off his sleeve, the better.
That's interesting, if true, do you have a link on that?
A smart move too that will make Lane Hudson's knickers go into a permanent knot, LOL!
