Democrats Race To Return Cash From Big Donor
WSJ ^ | August 30, 2007 | BRODY MULLINS and IANTHE JEANNE DUGAN

Posted on 08/30/2007 5:04:58 AM PDT by Brilliant

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and other prominent Democrats scrambled to unload thousands of dollars of contributions from one of the party's leading fund-raisers, amid questions about his ...techniques and news [of] a warrant for his arrest...

Election-law experts said the pattern raises red flags that justify a probe into whether the wealthy Mr. Hsu was improperly reimbursing the others for their donations...

Beyond his $23,000 in personal contributions to Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Hsu had raised well over $1 million for the New York senator's presidential campaign, making him one of her top 20 "bundlers." ...[and] hundreds of thousands of dollars for House and Senate Democrats and governors...

Earlier this week, Clinton campaign spokesman ... responded to questions ...by saying "there has been no question about his integrity ...and we have absolutely no reason to call his contributions into question."...

"There's no way to keep the money," said Doris Chandler Duke, ...a major Clinton supporter...

After pleading no contest to state theft charges, Mr. Hsu faced a penalty of three years in prison, and was responsible for paying restitution... "He was supposed to be sentenced, but he didn't appear... He faxed a letter, saying he had an emergency. And he never came back."...

Mr. Hsu, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Hong Kong, had returned to Asia...

While many of Mr. Hsu's new political friends abandoned him yesterday, at least one stuck by his side.

Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell said in an interview yesterday that he plans to keep the $40,000 he has received...

Last year, Mr. Hsu hosted a 10-course dinner for Gov. Rendell and about a dozen others at Per Se, a swank New York City restaurant overlooking Central Park, where a meal costs $250 a person. The menu included oysters and Russian sevruga caviar.

I read earlier that Joe Sestak is among them. He replaced Weldon in my district. Dirty money everywhere.

Oh come on people, Hillary is just a simple cave woman who didn’t understand the confusing ways of campaign finance. Please forgive her of her simple mistake and allow her to make up for it by donating the money to her favorite charity. Perhaps Katrina relief.

Why do they have to return it? They have done every other sleazy trick in the book and no one seems to care. Is this some kind of “scandal?” Nothing else they do fazes their constituents. Why should this be a problem? I always say Hillary and most of these lefties could committ murder on live TV and 90% of registered Democrats would still vote for them.

“There’s no way to keep the money,” said Doris Chandler Duke, ...a major Clinton supporter...

In other words, “We looked at every possible argument for keeping the money, but could not come up with one that would work.”

This might matter if it was Republicans involved.

But since it’s Democrats, it isn’t a big deal.

It’s always interesting to see the Democrats dealing with their dirty money being discovered no matter how dirty the money is. At first it’s “we see no reason to return it.” Then it’s “Well, we had no idea...” which progresses to “You can’t blame us for this...” which progresses to “Fine, we’ve returned the money therefore nothing illegal actually happened so, shut up already.”

And don’t miss this from Red Sate:
http://www.redstate.com/blogs/pagar/2007/aug/29/could_the_timing_on_the_craig_story_have_been_manipulated

~snip~

Today we find out from politico.com that there was some things going on that maybe the leftists like George Soros did not want to have all the attention focused
On

“The Federal Election Commission has fined one of the last cycle’s biggest liberal political action committees $775,000 for using unregulated soft money to boost John Kerry and other Democratic candidates during the 2004 elections.”

“America Coming Together (ACT) raised $137 million for its get-out-the-vote effort in 2004, but the FEC found most of that cash came through contributions that violated federal limits.

The group’s big donors included George Soros, Progressive Corp. chairman Peter Lewis and the Service Employees International Union.”

Wasn't there a Maria Hsu that was tied up somehow in algore's buddhist monk fandango? She had some sort of relation w/ Charlie Tre and the Ryadi mob.

Anybody else remember this?

I pity that family when the IRS starts to investigate how they could donate more money to the dems then they make in a year.

All those bucks they must owe for not reporting that mysterious income.
