Debating Ron Paul
National Ledger ^ | Aug 29, 2007 | JB Williams

Posted on 08/29/2007 4:59:22 AM PDT by PlainOleAmerican

Ron Paul supporters are fast making a name for themselves on the web. Not because they are just web savvy, but because they have proven themselves to be the best at hacking on-line polls, invalidating conservative polling data on behalf of their candidate. It seems that even Democrat 527 MoveOn.org is now onboard the Ron Paul anti-war train.

Despite the fact that presidential candidate Ron Paul can not score better than 3% in any legitimate national poll, his supporters claim he is “the conservative” candidate to beat in the 2008 Republican race for the White House. Despite his less than conservative voting record in congress and his Teddy Kennedy like position on the war on terror in Iraq, his supporters think he is the most “conservative” candidate in the race. How?

“Again I’ll pose the question: how can a pro-war GOP candidate get elected today when they are offering nothing in the way of new ideas on other issues?”

Actually, Karl Marx himself could probably get elected in America today. Is this a good reason to support Marxism?

Reagan’s refusal to get us stuck in a quagmire in Beirut was one the wisest decisions of his presidency. Had he not made this decision, we’d still be fighting there.

No, but it goes a long way in explaining why Rudy Giuliani is still in the running...

Exactly....

The truth won’t set everyone free... It actually enslaves those who don’t support it.

This thread is discussing an article. I guess you are afraid to discuss the points in it and just want to distract people to another subject.

Great point... but if you want to see how America might look without making an effort, there are places in the world that make good examples.

“He also fails to recognize that the national security threats are much different today, as compared to those present in 1776.”

I’m not so sure...:

That September 2001 rings a bell that makes me think it was important to tighten the border.. hmmm... I wonder what I am trying to remember happened... It must not have been that important if Paul didn't think we needed to increase border security to battle drugs and terrorism.

***********

Yes, and apparently he hasn't changed his mind since then, except to conclude that we were responsible for it.

Nice cherry picking job...

Cherry picking? Why would you say that? I merely posted the paragraph on Paul's votes against the war on drugs and didn't use any elipses.

Does your complaint about cherry picking indicate that you disagree with the author's support for the war on drugs....and that you actually agree with Paul on this issue? Do tell us more. Perhaps there is hope for you yet.

This thread is discussing an article.

The topic is Ron Paul, an elected representative from the same state that produced George W. Bush. I won't apologize for defending him. Sometimes doing so requires pointing out the fallacies of his detractors (a point which I see you clearly understand).

“I think what many on here fail to accept is that this war and this President are very unpopular.”

Oh no, we accept this, sort of...

Bush is indeed “unpopular.” He’s most “unpopular” with the people who voted for him. But he’s not as “unpopular” as the Democrat congress which represents his opposition.

The lack of real results in the war is also “unpopular”, but most Americans indeed understand the cost of retreating from that war. They just demand more success...

Don’t play the lefts game of selective memory...

"Nothing hurts like the facts..."

Right. 70% of the public agrees with Paul on Iraq. 'Majorities, it's what for dinner winning elections.'

Great point... but if you want to see how America might look without making an effort, there are places in the world that make good examples.

So if we have a few innocents shot by JBTs who happened to hit the wrong address with a no-knock raid, what about that?

Does it fall under the purview of "You have to break some eggs to make an omelet"?

I'm no advocate of drugs. Neither am I an advocate of giving up my essential liberties to oppose drugs.

“Obviously, this is a very liberal Republican writer who loves the warmed-over Xlinton policies that Bush let Teddy Kennedy write into law.”

Obviously, you have NOT done your homework on this writer...or much of anything else.

Border security? Hunter, Tancredo, and Paul are the only ones with their heads wired correctly. Bush's Shamnesty push and Congress' cutting of the budget for Jorge's promised fence are just two examples of the GOPs failure.

Here's what Dr. Paul has to say:

Border Security and Immigration Reform

The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. This is my six point plan:

Congressmen Paul is not an open borders advocate. You can drop that lie from your list.

A full frontal attack on Ron Paul and his supporters. Nothing hurts like the facts...
ROFL!
If he's only at 3% why do you want to launch a "full frontal attack"?

I’ve posted that on 2 threads now today alone. The anti-Paul’s won’t read it. It doesn’t fit their agenda. The National Ledger article could have been written by one of the FR hacks. I’m not worried about it. Here in NH Ron Paul is the only candidate with any real grassroots support. I even know some of the Rudy people who are paid, they are interested in Ron Paul as well.
