A few years ago, my husband, Mark, and I were at one of those hip downtown restaurants sipping mojitos and nibbling on lime-spiked seviche when one of my bosses appeared from a cloud of Cuban-cigar smoke and patted my shoulder. When I introduced him to Mark, he naturally asked what he did for a living. We both froze.
"I do some freelancing," Mark said.
"He studied film at NYU," I said at the same time.
Mark looked at me and shrugged. "I stay home with our daughter," he said, as my colleague quietly balked.
"He makes it possible for me to do my job," I said, laughing. But inside, I was mortified. Technically, I had it all back then, including a gorgeous toddler and a cool job.
What I didn't have was a husband I felt proud of.

We'll agree to disagree re her encouraging others. Why write such an article otherwise? Magazine columns don't pay much. Perhaps part of it is that she's trying to assuage her guilt.

This woman simply swapped the devil for the witch. After the “new” wears off, this new guy will suddenly look as shiftless and unattractive as the old one did. Oh, and I think this is probably an imaginary story with some basis in fact. People do tend to pick the same types over and over, expecting different results every time - all the while in denial about the truth.

These types of articles are popular in women’s fashion mags for the same reason they use size zero (sic!) models. The article, although no appearing in a fashion magazine, is basic fashion mag style.
Women, for reasons that escape men, like to read about clothing they can’t afford, look at bodies they don’t have, and learn about the lives they will never live. Men just like to look at pictures of cars and babes, or pictures of cars with babes draped over them. A much simpler formula.

It depends on how you define feminism. If you go back it used to be “the doctrine of legal equality between men and women.”
Its only when its warped that feminism becomes bad.

Its great being a man in the corporate world, as when we are not working we're typically golfing, while the ladies I guess have time to really give a sh-t what one thinks of their significant other/social standing.

Actually, it's pretty much the same formula. We like to look at pictures of cars we'll never be able to afford and look at pictures of women who are waaaaaay out of our league!
The women’s thing is more encompassing —it’s an entire lifestyle deal: from orgasms to window treatments. Look at the cover lines on the magazines, they’re like a dialogue inside an insane person’s head.
Doesn't mean being in a mall would stop me, if I thought it warranted, though.

But she is continue bothering people: her daughter by helping destroy her marriage and her ex-husband who hopefully will get a job in his field.

On the other hand, this is one of the reasons why people come to places like NYC — to live the kinds of lives they want to live.
