Fred Thompson's new campaign manager, Bill Lacy, forces out communications director Linda Rozett and suddenly we have a date for Fred's announcement:
Sources tell numerous outlets that Thompson will announce his campaign September 4th, and that he will participate in his first debate on September 27 at Morgan State University in Baltimore. His first major appearance at a GOP event will be at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference in Michigan around a week earlier.

For a “non-candidate” with “no campaign,” He sure seems to be doing a pretty good job for himself. He’s been second place (almost 1st) to Guiliani for the past couple months without doing anything.
I wonder how that makes all the second bananas in the race feel... ?
Are you looking in a mirror?
No, I think he was justing putting out an alert out for all RINOS that fred is jumpin in to stop them.
You pick.
Who’s body is that we know the head!
I saw a recent Rasmussen DTP from Friday that has Fred and Trudy tied at 23%. I’d vote for Mitt or Fred (of the candidates with a snowballs chance) at this point but I wouldn’t vote for Trudy if my life depended on it.
I still like Fred but many of his supporters on this website are mean-spirited and intolerant of any other candidate or those who even speak nicely about another candidate. Yet, Fred has had 3 or 4 major staff shake-ups and he hasn’t even declared yet.
One thing about Mitt Romney, he knows how to run a campaign. And as much as I can’t stand Rudy Julie Annie, he’s stood in the face of much adversity and is still leading in most polls.
C’mon Fred; get in the mix and let us see how you take the heat.
Fred will be speaking at a meeting in Washington in October. Defending the American Dream They have a long list of speakers and some I don’t know but there are several presidential candidates and Michael Steele.

Someone did interviews at the Maryland state fair, it is really interesting what they said about Fred.

At least when Fred makes a campaign personnel change, it’s done to put a more qualified and effective person in place of one who was less so.
When Mitt makes a campaign personnel change, it’s because the outgoing person was arrested and/or is facing charges.
Sen. Larry Craig, who pled guilty to disorderly conduct, has stepped down from his role as a co-Senate liaison for the Romney campaign.
Jay Garrity, Romney’s former Director of Operations, is being investigated for impersonating a police officer.
Alan Fabian, former co-chairman Romneys national finance committee, was indicted on 23 counts of bankruptcy fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice and perjury.
Mitt sure can pick ‘em...
No, we’re only intolerant of shills like you that come along every once in a while to tell us that you’re a ‘FredHead’ who thinks that Fred sucks and FredHeads are too mean to you.
Flamesuit on.

Most of what you call “mean-spirited” was nothing more than Thompson supporters defending their man after Romney, Hunter, Paul, Brownback and Giuliani supporters felt the need to trash Fred on Fred threads here on FR.
And nobody can hold a candle to Hunter and Paul supporters for their intolerance of other candidates.
Nice try, but that dog don’t hunt.
It isn’t a good day to say that about Mitt Romney, Senator Craig issue. It could be someone is going after Romney like this. Scandals are a specialty of the Clinton war machine. That said, no candidate can completely control stuff like that. If it is true, someone will find out. If there isn’t anything, they will make something up.
This summer there were a lot of hit pieces about Fred, mostly false or exaggerated. A lot of supporters of other candidates were pretty mean spirited toward Fred and his supporters. Can’t take that without defending yourself or your candidate. It is unreasonable to let something like that go without response. So who is going to stop the “mean-spirited” comments? They still go on even if there are no new hit pieces coming out from the MSM. I suppose some of the supporters are angry at Fred for the concept that there are a lot of people dissatisfied with the declared candidates. Also mad at Fred’s supporters. There has been a draft going on about Fred and you can’t say that about other candidates.
Sniff, sniff. You hurt my feelings. Sniff.
BTW, every part of your reply to me is untrue. I so wish that people could engage in intelligent dialogue without falling prey to name calling, nastiness and untruths.
You guys are not helping Fred’s cause.
Morgan State?
Interesting choice. Not exactly a hotbed of conservatism.
Yeah, well, you go on trying to help whatever cause you think you’re helping by posting your anti-Fred, anti-FredHead posts. I’ll be right behind you to remind those that you’re trying to ‘help’ just what your agenda is.
Because Fred can win. I'm convinced that there are a lot of people here who want a Democratic president in 2008.
Funny how that seems to be the case, isn’t it?
Thompson/Giuliani '08I'm not going to flame you for it but I'd like to point out that besides all the other things wrong with your idea, there's no way JulieAnnie is going to accept the #2 slot.
Just curious here.
Why would Fred participate in the remaining debates?
Nobody watches them. The media and dummorats uses them for their own nefarious objectives. And Fred would get more attention by staying away from them as he has from the “campaign” so far. In fact, I think he would likely get his own debate 1 on 1 with all the news outlets and could pick and choose to his own liking.
