U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people

The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.
U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.
About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said.
"There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per 10 people," it said.
India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there. China, ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3 firearms per 100 people.
Germany, France, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil and Russia were next in the ranking of country's overall civilian gun arsenals.
On a per-capita basis, Yemen had the second most heavily armed citizenry behind the United States, with 61 guns per 100 people, followed by Finland with 56, Switzerland with 46, Iraq with 39 and Serbia with 38.

when I see things like this, I have to wonder why there is any problem with the anti-gun lot stateside and why the NRA has less than 5 million members.
I have more shotguns than I need, but fewer shotguns than I want.
I have 22 guns (10 pistols, 8 rifles, and 3 shotguns) so even gun owners like myself cover for a whole heap of non-owners. But one of my frinds has over 100 guns so he covers for a small town.
‘U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world’s 875 million known firearms’
That translates into one gun for every two or three stars in the Milky Way. Big deal...
I have 26 weapons. What does that do to a BS statistic when you have several in that population who own a lot of weapons.
I have two and am perfectly willing to give any intruder
a “9mm sandwich”.
Aw shucks, don't thank us - we're just trying to help!
Not quite one per person. The odds are a lot better in my home.
Just have the 90 buy more guns to make up for the 10 “missing” guns.
Since when should we be limited to one gun per person? There are more than enough viable targets to go around and it would save on reloading.
Germany??
Germany is second in overall civilian gun ownership??
It’s not now many you own. It’s how well you can shoot them.
They use that phrase like we should be scared of guns "outside law enforcement and the military."
At least 120 million people died at the hands of (mostly leftist) "law enforcement and military" in the last century alone.
Every gun in civilian hands is an instrument of liberty.
“9 out of 10 Americans own guns”
I know you are speaking with your tongue in cheek, but this is not what the 90 guns per 100 people means at all.
Kinda gives you a warm feeling, doesn’t it?
With China in third place, you’d think that the citizens would have had a better time fighting off the Communist forces.
Sorry - I misread; India is second.
INDIA???
Its a good start all right. I plan to raise it as soon as possible. Planning a new rifle purchase soon.
Lets all see if we can raise it to 98%.
(I guess the Islamic world wasn’t included in the census.)
My problem is I have 3 brothers, so I told my dad to buy somemore :)
