Cop Escorting Bush Motorcade Dies in Crash
Associated Press via Fox News ^ | August 27, 2007

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A Rio Rancho police officer who crashed his motorcycle Monday while riding in a motorcade for President Bush's visit to Albuquerque was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.

Trish Hoffman, a spokeswoman for the Albuquerque Police Department, said the officer's name was being withheld until family members could be notified about this death.

Hoffman said the officer had been with the Rio Rancho police department since 2005 and worked with campus police at the University of New Mexico before that.

The officer had a wife and two teenage children, she said.

As for the crash, Hoffman said "it's way too soon" to say what the cause was.

The crash occurred where the road at the airport goes into an underground parking garage, she said. Traffic was shut down after the crash, resulting in a bottleneck at the airport.

Photographers and reporters in the presidential motorcade said the officer's motorcycle appeared to be nearly destroyed, and the officer was on the ground, being helped by an emergency medical technician.

OK, I’ll say it: It’s Bush’s fault...

Yes. (One l, I think). I grabbed the first story, not the followups. One dead, one with significant injuries, and one with minor injuries, apparently. I had thought there was an earlier case, and went looking for it. All I found was one involving Coolidge’s motorcade in 1928. There were also deaths in Tsongas (Palm Beach, 1992) and Al Smith (New Jersey, 1928) campaign motorcades.

Isn’t this the 3rd or 4th accident involving a Bush car-cade?

A Honolulu police officer, Steve Favela, died when his motorcycle crashed while he was part of a presidential motorcade traveling across Hickam Air Force Base last November.

In February 2006, a Bernalillo police officer was injured when his motorcycle went down while he was helping escort Bush's motorcade on Interstate 25.Sgt. Jerry Nixon suffered a broken nose, cuts and bruises.

Who rides a motorcycle if they've got a wife and kids?

C'mon.

Speeding on those poor handling Harley Davidson “Road King” police models is never a good idea.. I don’t see why they are used in motorcades , they are LESS maneuverable and capable than a car... If HD didn’t give the bikes away for nearly free on their lease/buy-back program the police would use something more suitable and safe ,, probably a BMW police model..

But they wouldn’t want his identity getting out, now would they?
