The Last Hollywood Conservative (Vanity)
27 AUG 07 | Old Sarge

Posted on 08/27/2007 6:20:54 AM PDT by Old Sarge

Here is the topic for an attempt at serious discourse: Who Was The Last Hollywood Conservative?

Ronald Reagan: Left Hollywood for the political arena;

John Wayne: Passed away in the 70's before Reagan was elected to the Presidency, still making films up to his death;

Charlton Heston: Was still working in the 1990's before Alzheimer's took him;

Please, discuss this with me and, if you can, add to the list?

>> even the staunchly Republican Bing Crosby had affairs and smoked marijuana

I’d bet you could add Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, the entire band ZZ Top, and 50 Cent to the marijuana-user list.

If one does not believe in the statement in the Declaration of Independence, that ALL are created by their Creator, one does not believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I'm a conservative and I believe in and support the D.I. and Constitution. There's nothing in either that says I have to accept your views -- or anyone else's -- as to Whom or What that Creator may be, or any of the specifics that derive from that belief. I'm with Poser on what defines "conservatism." Specific religions or religious beliefs have nothing to do with conservatism or the Constitution, as it's clearly spelled out in Amendment I.

As I was going over the sports stars, I noticed that a lot of them are very conservative (NASCAR being absolutely dominated by conservatives, followed by golf and football). It’s great to know that about the sports world, but it’s even better to know that these people go out and make a living and don’t force their political views on other people, just because they have a pulpit. Hollywood could learn a lesson.

The always classy (actress) Heather Locklear is a republican.

As is (former supermodel/business woman) Kathy Ireland.

Former Seahawks football player Steve Largent.

I remember he gave a speech after one of the 2000 presidential debates.

Agreed, it’s NOT my views and it is also NOT about a religion.

...There are the Patricia Heatons and Chuck Norrises, but they are relegated to bit parts...

Just an FYI. Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer are co-starring in a new television series this fall. I hope it's funny and well-written. There's not much on the tube I'd waste my time watching anymore.

Don’t know much about Lancaster, but Fonda played a real nasty guy in “Once Upon A Time In The West.”

I always assumed that’s how Jane got that way, but I didn’t know.

“What about Drew Carrey?”

Carey is a self-described libertarian, not a conservative. Although that’s about as close to conservative as you get in Hollywood.

I don’t see Keiffor Sutherland’s name mentioned yet in this thread.

That's because he's a Socialist (by his own admission).

Another person to add to the list is Adam Baldwin (no relation to the Baldwin brothers).

I always enjoy seeing Adam Baldwin, from "My Bodyguard" to "Independence Day." There is a quality about him that inspires confidence. Naturally he's a political conservative! Though I'd be a fan regardless.

... even the staunchly Republican Bing Crosby had affairs and smoked marijuana ...

Over my life, I've known literally dozens of staunch, honorable Republicans and Republican conservatives (for those who note the difference) who smoke pot. Lots and lots of them.

I've also known a few self-professed high-profile-in-their-churches "Christian" Republicans who were major jerks I wouldn't trust in a business exchange as far as I could throw them. They were hypocrites of an order that NONE of the pot-smokers I've known ever were. I'd trust a pot-smoking Republican in principle and in fact before I'd trust a look-at-me-I'm-a-Christian church "leader" any day. And I'm a Christian who thanks the Lord daily for Christ and the bible; I know that all my blessings are through His grace. I also know that just because a guy goes to church and waves his hands high in the air and shouts "Yes!" doesn't mean he's not a fraud.

My mistake. I thought I had seen him in a photograph with Limbeaugh on this forum sometime last year at a gathering for the “24” program. I guess having your picture taken with a good conservative like Rush doesn’t make you one.
