For those of you who thought you knew how low Bill Maher would go to get a laugh, this one may surprise you. For most of you though, it probably wont.
As part of Bills program Real Time With Bill Maher, he has a New Rules segment. During this segment Maher lampoons various public figures and subjects in the news. While viewing a few minutes of Mahers program today, I viewed the following presentation.
Cut to program (Maher has just roasted Victoria Becham for not smiling in public )
Broadcast
New Rule, journalists in Iraq must stop celebrating miracle babies rescued by American Soldiers. Like when U.S. Troops found little Fatima lying in a pile of rubble, and instead of bashing her head in with a rock, they brought her to a hospital. (Using high pitched mocking voice ) Ooo, what a miracle. (Raising fist into the air ) USA, number one! Thanks CBS for turning Iraq into a feel good story for the Baby Jessica fell down a well crowd. And no offense Fatima, but the real miracle in Iraq will be if you ever manage to get out.
This segment aired on Sunday the 26th of Augusts from 2:00pm to 3:00pm PDST.
I included the Shades of Al Qaeda phrase in the title of this thread, because Al Qaeda wants people around the world to think the worst of our troops, and Bill Maher has proven himself willing to advance that effort.
From my perspective Maher implies it was a miracle U.S. Troops didnt bash the babys head in rather than take her to the hospital. The headline of the CBS article made it very clear that the troops gave their heart to her instead. And at no time does Maher address who likely killed the babys mother and uncle. (Terrorists perhaps?)
While Maher has proven himself capable of putting out cutting edge humor that was Not Politically Correct, which drew me in as a viewer years ago, he has devolved into an unfortunate Bush hating, troop despising, and Iraqi freedom denying punk.

I do not watch him, and I never watched him.
I hesitated to post that, since bill o’reilly would probably cry “hate speech”, but maher is a real creep.
Joe, as former ARMY, this punk aint good enough to clean a Marines boots.

When I look at what HBO, Showtime and Cinamax put out, I sometimes think I should cut the cable. The problem is, there isn’t much out there without cable.
I think HBO cares a lot more what people think than we give them credit for. Not many corporations want to come off looking like they dispise members of the military. It’s just not a good business practice.
As for Maher, his schtick is growing old. HBO just might can his ass if a group of people made enough noise.
Actually Bill is an idiot. I’m not sure you can charge someone as a traitor, who hasn’t the tools to understand what that means. He is oblivious...
Well, I do believe there is some truth in that. Unfortunately there are so many idiots out there these days, and he comes off as a hero to many of them.
I hear ya. Someone mentioned him on the forum so I decided to check him out for the first time in years. This was the result.
To Bull Mahnuer the only Good American Soldier is a Dead American Soldier
Pray for W and Our Troops
You are right. The laughs were few and far between, during the part I watched. Tim Robbins didn’t go unchallenged did he. That was interesting. The male person you mentioned had his facts handy and beat him over the head with them.
As you stated, the NPR woman seemed to be a thinker. She wasn’t going to be led down any path she didn’t want to be, and she actually made some intelligent observations. She did not back Maher much, and actually challenged his assumpitons several times, with what I thought were some fairly reasoned comments, again for someone from NPR.
Did you catch her offense at Maher’s claim that he used racial flattery to get laid after the show. She took him on over that and wouldn’t let go, reverting to it several times later in the show.
This is the first time I’ve watched his show in about three years. Even today, I didn’t watch more than twenty minutes of it. Every once in a while it’s okay to check out what’s going on. Then we can report back and confirm what most already know.
Look, not everyone who comes here knows about Maher and what our take is on him. It can be instructional for us to lay out his actions. That’s why I did it here.
I very much wish to believe you're right. As you might easily tell, I have doubts.
As for Maher, his schtick is growing old.
Yes. I think so, too.
When he was on network, I actually enjoyed his "Political Incorrect." His guests seemed to be more evenly distributed and he seemed to treat everyone with what I thought at the time was incisively uncomfortable questioning.
When he moved to cable, all that seemed to disappear. He became overly partisan. He stacked the deck against his more conservative guests. I stopped watching after the second broadcast. Now, I don't even consider watching.
Appears that he has only gotten pettier and petulently mean-spirited.
What I think in my heart of hearts, and what I’m willing to publicly call for, are sometimes different. Do I think Maher’s behavior fringes on treason? Well, I have a very short fuse when it comes to the reputation of people who are fighting for me on the battlefield. When their efforts are hindered by a person like Maher, I go balistic. So yes I do think he’s crossed that line. There is a definition though that I don’t think convicts him. That’s my take on it. If it were me, I think he deserves to find himself in trouble with the feds. In today’s political climate, I don’t think it would fly. People would be outraged.
This nation does not stand as solidly as some think. IMO, it is on shakey ground. Our own citizens don’t give a plug nickle about it’s lengevity. Perhaps they’ll be cursed to lose it and find out what pure evil really is, instead of imagining that they are living it in the U.S. now.
When you have a host that has to have two liberals on just to confront one conservative (and even then some of them aren’t actually a true conservative), you know the guy is a light-weight.
Maher needs a three to one advantage just to cope. Now there’s a brain trust for ya. There’s a guy who is well grounded in his knowledge and realizes he has the upper hand in any debate against him and liberal marxist policies.
Maher’s nose looks like a flacid penis.
Does anyone really think this guy is funny, or the least bit entertaining? He’s bitter, nasty, and a traitor to our troops. He needs to be unemployed.
LOL, that’s what people used to say about Clinton’s proboscis.
Over this one comment alone, he should be.
It's gotten to the point that I embarrassingly tell people that I only read Playboy for the pictures!
Mark
I know what kind of danger that little Fatima would be in from a 51-year-old "confirmed bachelor".
Fortunately, she was found by US troops, and not a squad of HBO "comedians", some of whom probably live by the phrase "eight to eighty"...
