Many of you know that I help organize the Duncan Hunter "meetup" group(s). I decided to peek in at the "competition" and found it very interesting that Ron Paul supporters are being urged to attend the MoveOn.org rally....
http://ronpaul.meetup.com/1/boards/view/viewthread?thread=3421862
I post this because I know there are a lot of folks on FR that support Ron Paul.. I just wonder if you are participating in this effort.. or what you think about this whole business of catering to MoveOn.org
.... quote from an active Ron Paul supporter
Somebody posted a thread concerning moveon, and letting their members know about Ron Paul. As a member of moveon.org, I received today an invitation to create an anti-war rally on August 28th. They will be doing rallies all across the nation on that day. We should invade this event. During the rally, bring anti-war stickers, signs, and flags -- and also Ron Paul signs. Introduce moveon members to Ron Paul, the REAL anti-war candidate! Anti-war people will ask about Ron Paul and be introduced to him on that day. Don't be rude, just gently introduce people to the peace candidate. Moveon.org is well cordinated, so if enough of our people show up at their rallies, we might be able to convert a huge number of people.
I have already created a moveon.org anti-war rally, on the 28th at 7pm, right outisde of the West Covina Mall. Please, everybody who can in this group, COME. It's on the corner of Vincent and Plaza Drive in West Covina.

But I'm not going to hunt the poor boy down, George.
Add Karsten5 to our pinglist; I have. He's too new to know what they are but, if someone if going to drag him personally into a Breaking News thread and name and identify him here at FR, then he merits being inducted to our pinglist. And if we all get purged, Karsten can go down with the rest of us. He's a scrappy kid and should be on the boat with the rest of us, not off on his own little liferaft.
Me, I'm looking forward to the pics and personal reporting when Karsten freeps those MoveOn's at their little event. It should be a riot. Maybe this thread will help turnout from the Pasadena Meetup.

Not a real surprise. Moveon and Ron Paul have a lot in common.

Of all he has shown the most respect for our highest law.
Shrimp...shrimp...shrimp...where does it discuss earmarks for shrimp in the Constitution? Nope, can't find it!

Defender of the unborn
You mean like voting AGAINST a law which would prevent minors from being transported across states lines WITHOUT PARENTAL NOTIFICATION for an abortion? That kind of defender?
The same guy who voted against Jessica's Law? That kind of defender?
It's not bad enough you want us to join you in drinking your Kool-Aid, you want the rest of America to mainline that crap just like you and the Paulistinians have done. Guess what? We ain't buying it.

Your answer is roughly the same as GWBs, and is as I suspected. If there are any RP supporters with MoveOn ties, then they are aberrations and, by no means, representative of any RP support group. Thanks for responding.I think that the "MoveOn"-ers are the sort of "Progressive" Leftists who want to Tax, Excise, Proscribe and otherwise Regulate alcohol, tobacco, red meat, saturated fats, job stress, repetitive typing (i.e., the sort of thing we do on FR for fun), and anything else that Queen Hillary says is "Bad For You".
A veritable gaggle of progressive Yankee blue-nose Do-Gooders, the very exemplars of the most Chivalrous curse which Satan himself ever laid upon the yoke of Humanity: Secular Post-Millennialism. "I'm from the Government, and I'm here to Help You."
"If I knew, for a certainty, that a man was coming to my house with the conscious design of 'doing me good' -- I should run for my life."
~~ Henry David Thoreau, Walden
As expansive as Ron Paul's "Big Tent" may be, they're just not our sort of "Leftist".
For OUR sort of "Leftist", please look to Colonel William Ludlow, as played by Sir Anthony Hopkins in Legends of the Fall:
"Screw the Government! Screw 'Em!!"
The scene in which a crippled, stroke-ridden Anthony Hopkins bears himself up in his wheelchair to raise his ancient Civil War rifle one last time against the Government which has ruined his Ranch and murdered his Indian daughter-in-law, is for me one of the most bittersweet and triumphant scenes produced by American Cinema within the last 25 years.
"SCREW the Government! SCREW 'EM!!"
Now that's OUR sort of "Leftist". Hey-YAH!!

You did good work helping to "bump" Ron Paul's numbers for the 2nd-Quarter deadline (no, I'm not pretending that you "did it all" or anything; maybe you were only 0.2 percent, but you and about 500 others nationwide helped to boost Ron's fundraising going into the final gate, and that's the Truth -- don't kid yourself, GWB; 500 fundraisers make a difference)... but now we've got more Cash On Hand than anyone but Giuliani or Romney, and that's the problem.
It's now "Put Up or Shut Up" time, and we're in the hot-seat. I never thought it would come to this -- I've always supported Ron Paul, but at the beginning, I figured it would come down to a straightforward McCain-vs-Giuliani match-up, and I just thought it would be nice if Ron Paul reminded somebody about that whole "Constitution" and "Bill of Rights" thing.
Now Romney and Giuliani are battling over the "GOP Establishment" Money, McCain's sinking like a lead balloon, Fred Thompson is still playing the "Maybe, if I feel like it" game -- and RON PAUL's in THIRD. And moving UP.
How did this even happen?? We certainly didn't plan it!!
Like I said, I've always supported Ron Paul 100% -- but even from the beginning, I figured the best we could hope for was a flash in the pan, a One-Time Rememberance of what "Small Government" used to mean. And now, we're in it! We are actually IN CONTENTION for the Republican Nomination -- 5th in Iowa, 3rd in Illinois, recent 1sts in New Hampshire and Alabama, growing stronger with each passing day! MADNESS -- I thought we were just trying to make a point!!
This Campaign has already exceeded my wildest dreams. I'm having the most fun I've had in years. (Well, okay, I recently got Married and finally signed off from Celibacy. Admittedly, that's pretty good.... BUT THIS "RON PAUL" CAMPAIGN AIN'T BAD, NEITHER!)
Madness. Happy, silly, funny, good-ole-fashioned FUN American Political Madness.... Fear and Loathing on the Republican Campaign Trail, Anno Domini 2007. If Hunter S. was still here, he'd be laughing his arse off.
To wit, the Paul-Bashers can continue to be the unapologetic joy-killers that they are, and ever shall be. Me, I'm having the time of my life (or at least, or my thirty-somethings...).

Has it occurred to you that Col. William Ludlow isnt real?Technically, once you start with the Roman general Arturias and then deduct out all of the Lancelot and Guinevere myths, neither was King Arthur "real" (although I still think there's something to be said for the Excalibur and Merlin myth-seeds, but that's a subject for another discussion).
However, some Stories need to be told.
Colonel William Ludlow does not have to be precisely "real" any more than King Arthur or Allen Quartermain, for the purpose of storytelling. It is enough that he represents the Archetype of Individuality against the stultifying constraints of Obeisance.
(And yes, I am an unrepentant Jungian, and think that Freud was a cocaine-addled fraud. We can proceed from there, if you think it important. Best, OP)

I think the official RP campaign is just beginning. Until now, we've been just Meetups and longtime Friends Of Ron.
Did you read that Ron Paul has expanded from 8 staffers (mostly from his congressional staff, I think) to an impressive 33 staffers, most of them installed in our new RP office suite?
Our campaign is just really beginning.
The other second-tier candidates (and at least McStain in the first-tier) only wish they had Ron Paul's problem: more money than expected, more activists than anyone could keep track of, etc.
Now Romney and Giuliani are battling over the "GOP Establishment" Money, McCain's sinking like a lead balloon, Fred Thompson is still playing the "Maybe, if I feel like it" game -- and RON PAUL's in THIRD. And moving UP.

It's that old Reagan-Gingrich message of small-government combined with a real and sincere appeal to the values of lovers of American liberty. We are not yet an extinct breed.
Admittedly, I wouldn't want to be Kent Snyder, a harried cowpoke trying to wrangle our growing herd of cats. LOL.
We are actually IN CONTENTION for the Republican Nomination -- 5th in Iowa, 3rd in Illinois, recent 1sts in New Hampshire and Alabama, growing stronger with each passing day! MADNESS -- I thought we were just trying to make a point!!
Just remember, Xlinton was elected in '92 unprepared really. The times simply were ripe for an ouster of a tax-raising war president (even if victorious in Gulf War I). Something to keep in mind.
Now enough of your bitching that Ron Paul and his Meetups and longtime supporters are being too successful!
Things could get real interesting by January...

There are many pretty good folks who have some good conservative principles but can only go so far up the food chain. Here in CA we have McClintock who has a good conservative resume, but he just isnt electable. Coming from a Serial McClintock Basher and Schwarzenegger apologist, this is almost amusing.
I'm not surprised to find you pushing Giuliani.

If you haven’t read Stephen Lawhead’s “Merlin/Arthur” series, you should.
It is without doubt the best example of outstanding Celtic researched fiction that’s been written.

By the way -- yes, I
know that Colonel Ludlow is not "real" in the biographical sense.
In case you hadn't noticed, the Movie's name is, ahem, (please allow me to quote): "LEGENDS of the Fall."
Given that, by its very Title, the Screenplay claims pretensions to Mythos and indeed even the hallowed ground of Christian Mythos (which is, I agree with Lewis, a Myth which happens to be True), one should probably expect that this Movie will ground itself upon the Truth of Parable, rather than strictly-provable History.
Of course, I humbly await correction if I am in Error.
But I am reasonably certain that my interpretation is correct.
Best, OP
