Sen Mitch McConnell..... from the transcript..

“I thought much more newsworthy in August were Democratic critics of the war going to Iraq and coming back admitting that the surge, which they said would be a failure, is actually working.

WALLACE: Well, we’re going to get into that a little bit later with Senator Reed after we finish with you, but you said a couple of moments ago that Prime Minister Maliki has been pretty much a disaster.

MCCONNELL: Yeah.

WALLACE: Would Iraq and would the United States be better off with a new government and a new prime minister?

MCCONNELL: Well, we might, but it’s a democratically elected government, .........”

I wonder who Wallace thinks he is.....

“WALLACE: Well, we’re going to get into that a little bit later with Senator Reed AFTER WE FINISH WITH YOU”

Huge giggle of the day ... at a fundraiser on Martha's Vineyard yesterday:

"Bill Clinton told the crowd his wife would make the strongest president among those seeking to succeed Bush in January 2009 because she has the best plans to deal with national security, climate change, health care and education.

"If we were not married and Hillary asked me to do this, to be here tonight, I would be here," the former president said.

~~~~~~~~
ROFL !! You guys are married ???
Puhleeze .. they really think we're this incredibly naive and stupid, don't they?
I was much more impressed with Mitch McConnell's sincerity vs. Warner's out and out political pandering to the left. And we all know where that gets us!! We have been down that road many times.
If you give the rats an inch in short order a foot is not near enough and Iraq will be no different.
Better to just tell them what I do to shut the hell up and stop complaining all the time.
I happened to see the end of the FNS roundtable segment this evening. Chris referred to Gloria, the newcomer, as getting the last word. He was talking to Juan, because it is a bit of weekly closing dialogue between Chris and Juan, about Juan getting in the last word.
So he said “newcomer”, not “new panel member,” not that it matters much to me. I think I have had my lifetime quota of political discussion TV shows. The panelists don’t seem to be able to have an original thought any more.
Maybe a few women would feel that a woman president would somehow ‘help them,’ but I can tell you most women hate other women. I know I do!
I'm still laughing from your post, but I know you are right.
There are women who would vote for a woman no matter how bad she was and women who just plain don't trust or like women in politics. I'm counting on that keeping her heinous OUT.
I'd love to vote for a woman like Margaret Thatcher, but there ain't no such thing available in politics here today (sad to say).
The general military percentage is somewhere between 60% and 70%. Only in the Officer corps is support for Republicans higher than 80%.
I didn't know that and i'd be interested to know where you got such figures. That's not a challenge, I'd just like to know.
I can't give you a cite where I got mine except that that is what I remember from almost 7 years ago when Gore/Liemann were trying to suppress the military vote because it was expected to be sooo heavily Republican.
Unless my memory is wrong, I think we all thought it was one in five voted R. Of course, all of us thinking that wouldn't make it so, but I'm wondering if it has changed from then.
As I said, I'm in no position to demand you produce proof of your figures when I can't do so for mine, but I'd really like to know if you remember who came up with your figures and to what time frame it applies. Thanks.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out that Al Qaeda has been in touch with folks like Timmah Russert and are coordinating their actions with his show's guests and themes in the run up to that testimony. Wouldn't it be a hoot if Bush went on TV and played audio recordings of Lil Timmah or Ol' Bob talking on the phone with Al Qaeda operatives about timing of attacks on our soldiers.
It wouldn't surprise me either given the extent to which he and others like him work to undermine our troops and our country EVERY time they're on. They've given up all pretense and seem to think they'll get away with it.
Wonderful to see you back in force even with your schedule and recent eye problems.
[Hope it’s not Britt.]
I have been out of the country for a while but I got the impression Brit was a gonner on FNS. I believe his wife left and I think (thought) he was likewise looking at other adventures. Am I wrong?
No, that's fine. I got my numbers from exit polling in 2004. Bush got 57% of the military votes, Kerry got 41%. It has not changed that much over the past few cycles. So the percentage Hillary is polling is within the historical trend, and does not show a large-scale rejection of her by the military rank and file.
This Day in History 1998: Clinton testifies before grand jury
Lets fix that statement
On this day Clinton committed perjury before a Federal Grand Jury.
“Many gave up on Washington, but he did not give up on himself, much to our good fortune.”
As comparisons go....this is a real stretch. And still I will ask the question. How long should we give Iraq’s govt to get their act together? We can be as supportive as we like, but there has to be a limit. Personally, I do not think we will be there much beyond the 08 winner taking office, no matter who it is. And if we are it will be nowhere near the level we are now. Beyond ‘08 the only way I will support our continued precense there in large numbers is if the cost, and I mean most of it, is being paid for with Iraq oil money.
EMERGENCY BROADCAST OF THE SUNDAY MORNING TALK SHOW THREAD JEDI COUNCIL PING LIST!!!!!!!
Please, no BS, read the Free Republic link below:
Click Big Source of Clinton's Cash Is an Unlikely Address (Caught!)
The Driveby Media has its memes and talking points, we all know. But here is one that they dare not discuss...
So-called journalists are very sensitive to the charge that they are biased towards the Democrats. This is in fact a charge that most Americans believe, as documented in numerous polls despite any attempt at spin to explain them.
I sense this story is going no where. It shouldn't be so, as any unbiased observer would see that campaign contributions as this are HIGHLY illegal and absolutely designed to get around campaign financing laws.
Homosexual congressmen sending naughty instant messages to 19 year old male pages is a scandal, so scandalous, in fact, as to warrant a top level media investigation weeks before an important national election, especially if such innuendo and "fake but accurate" charges can be made to discredit Republican leadership.
This story above, however, will gain no traction as the DBM will not want to "throw the 2008 elections" by "unfairly" implicating the top democratic contender.
Can we make a difference?
We need to try!!!!
I see your point, but let’s not forget the fact that the same exit polling that year showed Kerry as the likely winner. This major discrepancy was talked about to no end by the media for several weeks after the election. Indeed, we discussed it here on this thread at great length.
I can say with some certainty that the military is decidedly conservative, yet a considerable minority (35% or so) within is liberal. No offense to them; I think they’re wrong, and will gladly debate any of them (as I often did :-) ) as to why the democrats’ voting record is usually unfavorable to their profession, but they’re entitled to be wrong.
