DETROIT Attorney Geoffrey Fieger, best known for representing assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian, was indicted on charges of conspiring to make more than $125,000 in illegal contributions to the 2004 presidential campaign of former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.
~~~~~
Edwards spokeswoman Colleen Murray said in a statement that if the charges result in a conviction, the campaign will return the money. Fieger has maintained he had nothing to do with his staff's financial support for Edwards.
Thanx to NCBraveheart, who first posted this on the NC Board. I felt it deserved wider attention.
Looks like collusion between the ambulance chasers and the hearse chasers.
If ever there was a campaign in need of Dr. Kevorkian, it's Edwards'.
Excerpting was required, and I didn't do a very good job. I recommend clicking the link. There's some pretty juicy stuff in the article -- setting up straw donors; obstruction of a grand jury investigation; trying to pin the illegalities on a deceased person (oh, the irony); and of course the usual statements that "in this country, you're innocent until proved guilty"; and the usual claims that the candidate knew nothing about the affair.
Actually, that was his brother in the Knack, not him.
Sorry to bring up a dead thread but thought I would share some more info on this jerk Fieger. Over the past several months he has been running 2 different ads on local TV here. I thought that 1. he was promoting his law practice or 2. that he was buying himself face time in order to make a run for governor. The second Ad was equating Bush and Cheney to hitler and that they were coming after the lawyers and that people should be very afraid because its the lawyers who are standing up for the people......
Last week a judged ordered Fieger to stop running the Bush/Hitler Ad because what he was doing was trying to taint the jury pool for his upcoming trial........
