REDHEADS are becoming rarer and could be extinct in 100 years, according to genetic scientists.
The current National Geographic magazine reports that less than two per cent of the world's population has natural red hair, created by a mutation in northern Europe thousands of years ago.
Global intermingling, which broadens the availability of possible partners, has reduced the chances of redheads meeting and producing little redheads of their own.
It takes only one red-haired parent to produce ginger-headed babies, but two redheads obviously create a much stronger possibility.
If the gingers really want to save themselves they should move to Scotland.
An estimated 40 per cent of Scots carry the red gene and 13 per cent actually have red hair.
Some experts say that redheads could be gone as early as 2060, but others say the gene can be dormant for generations before returning.

I am a recovering Ginger Addict. For her I would backslide.
Do these “genetic scientists” get to demand that they see proof positive that the girls really are redheads?
Do they get to do an inspection?
Hmmmm.... sounds like my next occupation!
Hey, baby, trust me. I’m a scientist...
This story is complete BS... with only 1 parent needing to have the gene to produce a red headed child, there is ZERO chance that red heads will become extinct.
Scully went to high school with my oldest son. She is NOT a red head.
There are lots of redheaded Jews, including the Bible’s King David, and I can assure everyone there will be red-haired Jews 100 years from now.
I believe the London physician “Dr. John Gray” is a creation of the Proctor & Gamble marketing department.
That last one, in the very bottom, is truly breathtaking...
she should let her hair grow out, though.
The author is an idiot!
FIRST, although many inhabitants of the British Isles are red-headed, red-headedness comes from a genetic mutation which has occurred many times. Red-headedness was once a *Jewish* stereotype! This stereotype has been purposely forgotten because of its close association with anti-semitism, but close family friends of ours were very middle-eastern-looking (deeply olive skin, etc.) Jewish people with gloriously bright red hair. Even black people can have red hair, freckles, etc.
Famous non-Northern European red-heads:
Napoleon Bonaparte, Cleopatra, Christopher Columbus, King David of Israel-Judea, Bette Midler, Ramses II, Malcom X. Judas and Salome were also said to have red hair, but it’s hard to know whether this legend is the result of anti-semitic stereotyping, or the cause of it. (IOW, was Judas stereotyped as having red hair, because he was an archetypical Jew (even his name simply means “Jew”), or does the stereotype exist to link associate all Jews with Judas?)
(Of course, America could almost be said to be a ginger conspiracy too: Columbus, Washington, Jefferson and many other founding fathers and early presidents were all red-heads.)
Since ginger is a recessive trait that experiences heavy interference from other genes, you don’t even need “day-walker” parents to have a ginger kid.
That could cause some big problems in a marriage if the mailman has red hair.
They won’t be gone, not as long as you can buy red hair in a bottle (as many pictured above have done).
(Real true redheads are not usually great lookers.)
Pul-eeeze! The correct answer is "both!"
Xenu, Save Us!
you are half-right
Actually you know if you think about it. Howell can’t live forever.....
Which of my statements is not true?
