Failing Grades; Radicalism is no longer taught only in college
American Legion Magazine ^ | September 2007 | Alan Dowd

Radicalism is no longer taught only in college; many younger students are getting a head start.

Schools traditionally emphasized the “three Rs” – reading, ’riting and ’rithmetic. Recently a “fourth R” seems to have entered the American schoolhouse: radicalism.

“When you go into a class where you’re supposed to learn about government or geography,” high-school junior Sean Allen says, “you expect to learn what the truth is.” He found out last year that some teachers don’t share his expectation. An Accelerated World Geography class at Overland High School in suburban Denver featured diatribes against the United States, capitalism and President Bush. His frustration over anti-American classroom rhetoric thrust him into a national debate over the limits of academic freedom.

“Sean had told me the teacher was pretty radical,” his father, Jeff Allen, recalls.

How radical? The teacher, Jay Bennish, used a geography class to declare capitalism “an economic system at odds with humanity.” He called the United States “the most violent nation on earth.” He said Bush’s 2006 State of the Union address “sounds a lot like the things that Adolf Hitler used to say.”

When in the hell will public schools stop becoming the platform for far left whackjob teachers to spew their hatred of America?

Boy I know how that feels. My government class was filled with stuff like that too. So was most of my publik skool "education", come to think of it. I presume it will only get worse in college. But fortunately biology majors don't have to take poli-sci classes...

Why is this man teaching? It’s time to demand better of our educational system. I don’t believe our children should be taught the opinions of a left wing crank. It’s time to stop putting up with this nonsense.

I don’t know, but most certainly a lot of them are. You have to watch them all the time. I see evidence of idiocy being taught when I talk with my grandchildren and other kids that I work with in church. Things like cutting trees is bad, chipmunks are endangered, etc.

if people were paying attention and cared,

they’d go down to the local school boards and demand

a change in the curriculum and instructors.

They just adopted new textbooks for the English program in our high school district. My daughter is in AP English/Literature this year, which is her junior year.

One of the three texts they use in her class is a book called “Everything Is An Argument”. After she received her new books this summer, we both read it together, and it is a vile, America-is-always-wrong, Capitalism-sucks book. She is very disappointed, as she hoped she would be introduced to more advanced works of literature, not a psuedo-debate class. She is supposed to be preparing for college, but all this is teaching her is to prepare for radicalism. She is unhappy with the text, and we have a meeting scheduled with the teacher, as I want to see how she intends to present this text. I will be watching, and my daughter, who is a wonderful up-and-coming conservative, will be filling me in at every stop.

“She is supposed to be preparing for college, but all this is teaching her is to prepare for radicalism. “

That IS preparation for college today. Sadly even “conservative” schools celebrate queerdom and radicalism.

The Democrats pander to these morons. As well they should, since these “teachers” support the Democrats wholeheartedly.

My 8 year old grand son told me about global warming. I straightened him out the best I could and his mother does the same. It has to be confusing to a child to hear one thing from a teacher and another from his family.

My twin, second grader, grandkids came home today with a note from the Nazis. For the next 9 WEEKS, the school will be teaching them about this evils of tobacco although this small county is number one in the nation for meth usage. The school did say that while teaching the evils of tobacco, they will also be teaching math, science, sex ed and geography. What a country. Gotta keep the Smoke Nazis employed with those tobacco tax grants. No word yet if the Nazis will also be teaching them about the evils of methamphetamine. Probably not.

Kids should go to every class with digital recorders and parents should monitor what they are being taught.

Many of these teachers think that they can say whatever they want because no one will ever hear it and they can always deny it later.

My daughter’s history teacher was maligning every white man in history for all the ills of the world. When I confronted her on some of the things my daughter said she said, she denied having said them.

Ma'am, you may or may not be willing to participate in what I'm about to suggest, but please consider it.

Teachers prefer to style themselves as ''professionals'', notwithstanding that they most of them belong to one or another union, willy-nilly. The point here is that they've had it both ways for far too long.

Only professionals (in most states) can be sued for malpractice. The malpractice here you are well acquainted with...you've cited it. If you have a friend who is a tort attorney, I should strongly recommend that he or she accompany you to this meeting. If your attorney friend is a man, introduce him as your brother; if a woman, introduce him as your sister -- the ''teacher'' will never know the difference. Tape recorder of course.

You may not wish to fight this fight, and that's OK. However, sooner or later, someone simply MUST. (I would, personally, but I haven't any children).

Best wishes and good luck to you and your daughter!

When, and only when, someone begins suing both teachers and administrators for incompetence and educational malpractice. School boards, too, insofar as they are ultimately responsible for these intellectual atrocities.

One may not prefer the tactics of the Left, to wit, lawsuuits...but Americans had better remember at some point that the only way to fight fire is WITH fire.

The teacher, Jay Bennish, ... called the United States “the most violent nation on earth.”

R.J. Rummel, who has compiled amazing statistics on what he calls "democide," or killing by government, credits the USA with 575,000 during the course of the 20th century.

This compares rather favorably with the USSR at 61M, Nazi Germany at 21M and Red China at 35M.
