...accidentally causes harm to another?

Reckless driving itself is a crime. If it results in injuring another person, that's an additional charge.

If the victim dies due to the driver's criminal actions, he/she may be facing a manslaughter charge.

You see this scenario as boring, humdrum, not exciting enough? Geez!

Anyway, you're standing pretty much alone with your "churches can be sanctuaries for lawbreakers." It simply makes no sense.

My wife donates hundreds of hours each year of community service work through her church. It is all done on a voluntary basis, and she do NOT have the threat of arrest hanging over her head. The church is not protecting her from any government agency that wishes to speak with her.

Postponing justice is not how a responsible person handles their obligations to society.

Agreed. But the irresponsible are people too. We do have a responsibility to make them to see their errors and encourage change. I think churches and their congregations should feel some kind of obligation to make an effort to do so whenever possible. This is why I think sanctuary is a good idea. It gives religion a slightly bigger authority in the “reform” process that prisons otherwise would have a monopoly. It also plays well into my belief that big brother is too big and should be downsized. I’m in favor of upsizing the responsibilities of private charities. I see sanctuary as one small way to do that. The surest way to whittle away at big brother’s size is to whittle away at his authority. I like the idea of sanctuary.

Yes.

As I stated in a previous post, My opinion of sanctuary is that it is a self imposed prison sentence. The individual cannot leave the building or he will then be subject to the authority of the law. I see no difference between the two prison terms except that in the case of sanctuary, the individual is supposedly doing good things in order to earn that sanctuary. I may not have a completely accurate understanding of sanctuary. But this is how I honestly see it.

Obviously, the individual will eventually leave the sanctuary and then be run through the system. So it is not a trade of one prison term for the other. It is a trade of one voluntary prison terms now, in exchange for postponing the other mandatory prison term later. I have no problems with that. I don’t understand why anyone would.

I don't think that churches should be sanctuarys. It irritates me that terrorists now use mosques to conceal their weapons and operational plans from investigators.

If we don't like the fact that Big Brother is getting so big all we have to do is get off our lazy asses, unite into a determined group with one cause and replace *him* while we still have the possibilities of doing so.

"Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it." - Mark Twain

This nonsense of reelecting RINO's into congressional and senatorial seats is idiotic and lamebrained. The idea of Party support is equally so. How can anyone expect to accomplish a goal with divided allegiance? It is obvious or should be that our two parties are actually one party striving for a New World Order under UN leadership. If they ever figure out how to disarm the people then accomplishment of a NWO will be a forgone conclusion.

>I’m in favor of upsizing the responsibilities of private charities.<

You mean something like many *United Way* charities ..... where executives are paid outrageous salaries and the goals are determined by NGO's who benefit from the citizens contributions.

Corruption has eaten its way into every organization where large cash deposits are exist. That is a fact of life today. Morals have sank beneath the surface of reasonable acceptability. The Christian religion upon which this nation was founded is being shunned by the public schools and agencies.

Perverted sex behavior is being taught to our children with government approval and only a tiny outcry is heard from concerned parents.

I, personally don't see much hope for our culture or our way of life in the upcoming generations.

When lawmakers and law enforcers refuse to adhere to and support the laws of a country, said country’s very existence will not long be an issue. Instead, it will fail and fall into the dusty pages of history as a ‘once-was’ entry.

I'm not sure I agree with this saying but these days, it does appear correct -- “in a democracy, the people get the government they deserve.” We have the ability to make changes, yet we don't.

Are we cowards, afraid to stand up and be counted as rebels.

No, I mean giving the small neighborhood church a bigger say in things and more authority. Churches are charities too. But even the big corporate charities are better than a federalized system.

Granted the problem is quite complex. How many illegal immigrants from the US are in Mexico because their families are starving?

I think I would do most anything legal or illegal to feed my family. The only difference between us is the government.

No amount of money has in the past or will ever help the Mexican people in Mexico because of the the corruption. The corruption will never change as long as their bribery system is in place in their police force and military.

Silver or lead are the two things that are used to get people to do things.
