French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Thursday at the end of his US vacation that France is popular again in the United States and hailed the countries' "terrific" relationship.
"France is back, there are no problems between France and the United States, or between the French people and the American people," said Sarkozy on the eve of his departure from a two-week family holiday in New Hampshire.
The leaders met at the Bush family residence in Kennebunkport, Maine, and dined on an American picnic lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers, though Sarkozy's wife Cecilia bowed out at the last minute citing a throat ailment.
Sarkozy said strong US-French ties are all the more important because "the United States is soon heading into an election cycle" and will be choosing "a new team to govern."
He summed up his US vacation as "fantastic" and praised Americans for being "very nice."
"We did some exercise, took walks, relaxed as a family, it was wonderful," said Sarkozy, 52, adding he "would have liked to have had the opportunity to come here when I was young."
"Americans were very warm with my family and me, we saw it multiple times," Sarkozy said. "Each time we went out to eat, or were out exercising, people were very nice."
"The friendship between France and the United States is not simply a friendship between two presidents, it is a friendship between two peoples."

Yep, and it'll continue to be Republicans...wonder how he'll like them apples. ;o)
I know how you feel. I hate it when I don't realize my fingers are on the wrong "home keys" before I hit the "post" button.
Ummmmmmmmmm
Ok.
Support Freedom for the Iraqi People. Support us in that cause. The Iraqi’s are no less deserving of it than France was in WW2. Support the War on Terror, and quash the insane take over of your own Nation by Muslims, do THAT, and we will be on the same page.

Good
France is like the drunk who swears he will never take a drink again on Friday night, that you run into on Monday morning laying face down in a gutter. You take them home and clean them up by Wednesday. You meet with them on Friday evening and they swear they’ll never dring again. Then along comes Monday.
I’ll be the judge of where France stands, thank you very much.
And Sarko Baby, how many troups are you sending to Iraq? What sanctions are you going to sign on to for Iran? Are you going to give up your security council seat or demand England do it instead?
I do admit, I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Sarkozy. I do have improved hopes for our nation’s relations. Let’s see how that actually pans out.
Best of luck Sarko. Your heart seems to be in the right place. Now... answer those questions.
“..President de la France avec les couilles pour defendre des valeurs reelment conservatice.”
Let’s wait and see what he does before calling him a conservative. Remember that a European conservative is only a little to the right of an American liberal.
Viva le Sark!

I doubt he has the political capital to do that, though it would be nice. Sarkozy has a tough slow slog ahead of him getting France in the right direction, much like turning a barge.
I like this guy more and more.
“much like turning a barge.”
gar-barge!
ever since sarkozy won I had unexplainable cravings for moldy cheese and foie gras.
“Lets wait and see what he does before calling him a conservative. Remember that a European conservative is only a little to the right of an American liberal.”
You are right. Having lived 15 years in Paris, I can honestly say there are no normal pro democracy politicians. There are fascists, socialists, and communists. Sarkozy is the one and only French politician who says things that you might have heard from Reagan, and he makes no concessions or apologies for his beliefs.
The French are so messed up it will take him 14 years to have a real impact. The price of bread has been controlled for almost 200 years!
Actions speak louder than words.
When a French soldier steps foot in Iraq, I’ll have REAL respect for him.
I loved how he had Mireille Mathieu sing La Marseillaise at his inauguration. Je l’adore. That would be the American equivalent of having Martina McBride — no left-coast diva...heartland values embodied in old-fashioned gal who sings her heart out. (One day I am going to post a little vanity on Mireille with lots of photos and her life story.)
The one and only triumph of the Revolution?
I have a saying that I am fond of...
It is “Actions speak louder than words.” and with that Mr. French President step up to the plate and help out with the rag-head problem, because if not We may not come to your rescue again for a 3rd time!
I guess I will have to reconsider my boycott of French-made goods that has been underway since Chiraq stabbed us in the back when we began our self-defense against global terrorism efforts.
