Take your pick:
The New York City car smoking ban was discussed yesterday on FR here.
Then we have something for the folks who said this was all about not having to be around smoke in a private local bar...as we predicted, they're coming into the house:
HST:Homes next target for smoking ban
Here is part II today.

We the People Sheeple of the United States Nanny State, in Order to form a more perfect Union Socialist Utopia, establish Justice Socially engineer a country of non smoking, physically fit, tea totallers, insure domestic Tranquility Smoking bans in bars, limits on unhealthy food and social drinking, provide for the common defense Universal Healthcare, promote the general Welfare health of the population whether they like it or not, in order to save above mentioned Universal Healthcare entitlement program from bankruptcy, and secure the Blessings of Liberty Dependency to ourselves progressive liberals and our Posterity Hitler Youth who we brainwash through public school education, do ordain decree and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. Nanny State of Liberals.
Can we lick our pencils?
When (and I say “when” because it’s looking pretty inevitable) Universal Health Care comes into being here in the U.S., they’ll be telling us what to do in a lot more ways than this. Let the games begin.
Smoking in a car with a child is child abuse.
Rush makes an idiotic comment that if smoking is so bad, why not ban it. Well, adults are free to make their own decisions. So are waiters in smoking restaurants (don't work there).
Children, however, are not able to make these decisions. Hence there is a state interest. No one here opposes the state preventing child abuse. As the son of someone who was an in-car smoker and suffered asthma-like illeness because of it (along with my sibling who did have asthma), and knowing that 2nd hand smoke is full of poison, I disagree fully with Rush and told him so in an email.
Nanny state is telling adults what they can and cannot do. Preventing children from being poisoned by their stupid parents is the reason government exists.
I loved the call from Lily. What it demonstrates perfectly is that liberals think like 9 yr olds.
Ask any 9 yr old if they think it’s fair that some people have money and some don’t.
Ask them if they think “war is a good thing or a bad thing”.
Ask them if they think everything should be free.
Ask them if they think that if a behavior makes one person sick then no one else should be able to do it.
The thing is, even a 9 yr old can be made to realize that life just doesn’t work that way. Unfortunately, the longer one goes uncorrected, the more impossible it becomes to make them see the light.
And I must admit...I played with a lot of Barbies in my time, but I never really considered licking one. I did give one of them a haircut and she had these two little “devil horns” sticking up though.
I thought the liberals wanted government out of our homes (including the bedrooms) but here they are attempting to limit where you can smoke even in PRIVATE as a CONSENTING ADULT.
And when do the kids ever get to consent to be raised in a same sex couple household?
Oh wait, that was a politically correct demographic.
I have to admit that if my lungs could take it and if it weren’t unhealthy, I’d joyously light up a Marlboro this very minute. If it stinks, oh well.
Nevertheless, we don’t want our kids to start. And we don’t want them to submit to tender tyranny either.
Teach them self-control, and a little government resistance.
I’m thinking of quitting smoking and taking up leaving burning tires on city streets for relaxation instead. If the nanny staters want something to whine about I say give them something to whine about.
Smoke em if you got em!
Thank you so very much.
I’ll be looking for a new car next year, and all of you smokers can indulge yourselves with my blessings.
Yup, the respiratory therapy business has never been better, and though there has been no recent shortage of clients, you never know.
On the other side of the equation, if you really need a reason to quit smoking....perhaps a few hours a week of volunteer service at, or a tour of a chronic care hospital with serious COPD patients might wise a few of you people up.
I won’t count on it, but I will count on my getting a new car next year at your expense.
I presume Rush knows that 'our representatives' would just impose taxes on some new thing in order to fund their addiction to our money.
I’m starting a new initiative that both adults and kids, especially the latter should wear crash helmets inside the car. Seat belts do not address head injuries.
To those who would protest that this would make it hard to use cellphones, higher priced helmets could come with a builtin phone.
It’d also make it virtually impossible to smoke, not to mention eating, drinking and putting on makeup.
Unfortunately, people would still be able to text message. But, perhaps taking a page out of AQ’s book and amputating thumbs or other guilty digits would take care of the “problem”.
There must be other problems out there, kneepads and elbowpads for pedestrians in case they fall and hurt themselves, with a helmet so their precious skulls aren’t hurt while falling on hard city pavements.
Inshallah, bin Blair.
RUSH: The New York City council is preparing a new ban on smoking by parents in cars. “A City Council member of Queens and chairman of the council’s environmental protection committee, James Gennaro, said he is planning to introduce a bill later this month that would ban smoking from cars carrying minors.
It’ a behavioral modification bill which will make it legal for some low life creeps to stick their filthy little greasy fingers into the violator’s wallet to take what they want.
No, I don’t believe parents should smoke in cars with windows up. Who does that anyway? I don’t smoke alone in my car with my windows up.
All nanny bills encroaching upon freedom should be voted on by the public at large.
What’s the population of NYC and it’s burroughs? 16 million or so? And 50 people get to decide their fate? Seems a bit lopsided to me.
The right to abuse your child vs. the right to feed your addiction.
A conundrum.
