Guatemalan arrested in crash (drunk illegal, hit-and-run, 2 Americans die)

A Guatemalan man who is in the United States illegally was arrested early Tuesday on hit-and-run charges after a traffic accident that killed two Baltimore-area men and injured three other highway construction workers on the side of U.S. 29 in Montgomery County, police said.

The crash just over the Howard County line was the latest in a series of fatal traffic accidents involving illegal immigrant drivers in Maryland. It also added two names to the list of highway workers killed in on-the-job crashes recently.

James Cronin, 37, of the 7200 block of Judy Road in Glen Burnie, was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center on Monday in critical condition and died late Tuesday morning, according to Officer Melanie Hadley, a spokeswoman for the Montgomery County Police Department.

The previous day, Martin Ruffin, 30, of the 1800 block of Moreland Ave. in West Baltimore, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1 p.m. crash. Three others were taken to hospitals with injuries.

Montgomery police said the driver of a white Ford Econoline fled on foot after plowing into a construction truck and hitting the workers, who were sitting on a guardrail taking a break.

Manuel De Jesus Gonzalez-Geronimo, 31, of Hyattsville turned himself in to Prince George's County police about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

Gonzalez-Geronimo was turned over to Montgomery County police and charged with failure to remain at the scene of a collision involving death and bodily injury and with driving without a license, police said. At a hearing Tuesday, he was ordered held without bond at the Montgomery Detention Center.

Lucille Baur[CQ], another Montgomery police spokeswoman, said that Gonzalez-Geronimo said during the hearing that he is an undocumented worker from Guatemala.

The crash was one of several recent fatalities in Maryland for which illegal immigrants face charges.

because they simply do not care?

No Nation in the history of the world has allowed the kind of invasion that the government of this country has over the last 20 years.

Send the story to O’Riley he’s on a crusade on the illegal criminal aliens issue.

Just don't let him know you're a (gasp) FReeper.

Hell with O’Reilly, send the story to Lou Dobbs. Lou has been on a roll about illegal invaders, their crimes, and the ruination they’re causing working class and middle class citizens. Lou blasts both the White House and the DimRAT Congress, as well as previous administrations and Congresses, for being responsible for the mess!

“Over 45,000 US citizens killed by illegal aliens since 9/11. Why is there no outrage over this slaughter?”

If it was 45,000 bureaucrats and politicians you’d see some outrage.

Only two? What self respecting illegal settles for two these days...

A third highway worker has since died, so he's moving up in the standings...

Note the time of the crash and the time that Manuel De Jesus Gonzalez-Geronimo turned himself in.

The previous day, Martin Ruffin, 30, of the 1800 block of Moreland Ave. in West Baltimore, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1 p.m. crash. Three others were taken to hospitals with injuries.

(snip)

Manuel De Jesus Gonzalez-Geronimo, 31, of Hyattsville turned himself in to Prince George's County police about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

It was 11 and a half hours between the accident and the time Manuel De Jesus Gonzalez-Geronimo turned himself in. If Manuel De Jesus Gonzalez-Geronimo was drunk at the time of the accident, this would have given him sufficient time to sober up.

I have seen a slow progression of it on FR.....i’m glad to see it come...i was in a fog for years....not anymore.

Count me as one of the recently come around. I supported President Bush's guest worker provisions until about a year ago. Finally the body count just got too high.

The negative effects of removing guest workers and illegals from the labor pool cannot be as bad as the corrosive effect of 20 Million illegals running loose in the country, with no stake in our society.

The government seems perfectly happy to double the cost of numerous foodstuffs through senseless subsidies of corn-to-ethanol production, which produce no societal benefit whatsoever. It should be willing to tolerate an increase in the cost of lettuce to rid our nation of the scourge of illegal immigration.

Hey, looks like he's picking up the culture...Next thing you know, he'll be in the US Senate representing Massachusetts!

definition of worker! someone who earns wages pays taxes
and gives back to our social system.

“Congressman penny had a link to an FBI study of 4000+ per year. You can check his .gov link”

Well, the poster didn’t cite ANYTHING and I can’t find a website for Tim Penny. He’s not in office anymore.

J.D. Hayworth said, “Numbers are very hard to come by, but a conservative estimate of the number of Americans killed by illegal aliens since 9/11 is higher than the number of Americans killed in Iraq and probably higher than the number of Americans killed on 9/11 itself. It may be slow-motion nightmare, but it is a nightmare nonetheless.”

I really hate to a see number like that posted without a direct link or reference to where it came from. Otherwise, how can we judge the credibility of the source or the poster?

It sounds plausible so that is why it has generated so many responses. But, that’s 11 deaths a day. Was that number generated indirectly or through actual count? Who did it? A number like that would be very useful in the debate if is real. Its not very useful if you can’t source it.

It’s not only the ‘choir’ that comes here. I like to think of us the objective people who use evidence and reason to support our arguments.

Biting the Hand that Feeds You
The Office of Congressman Steve King

“What would that May 1st look like without illegal immigration? There would be no one to smuggle across our southern border the heroin, marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamines that plague the United States, reducing the U.S. supply of meth that day by 80%. The lives of 12 U.S. citizens would be saved who otherwise die a violent death at the hands of murderous illegal aliens each day. Another 13 Americans would survive who are otherwise killed each day by uninsured drunk driving illegals. Our hospital emergency rooms would not be flooded with everything from gunshot wounds, to anchor babies, to imported diseases to hangnails, giving American citizens the day off from standing in line behind illegals. Eight American children would not suffer the horror as a victim of a sex crime.”

Then send it to Greta. Greta has been doing a great job of railing against this. Send it to all three..more exposure. FNC gets more viewers than Lou Dobbs.

Give them time. When they're living like outcasts in their own country, they'll understand how desperately we need to move these people out.

Part of an article by Joseph Farah
from WorldNetDaily:

“While the military “quagmire” in Iraq was said to tip the scales of power in the U.S. midterm elections, most Americans have no idea more of their fellow citizens – men, women and children – were murdered this year by illegal aliens than the combined death toll of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan since those military campaigns began.

Though no federal statistics are kept on murders or any other crimes committed by illegal aliens, a number of groups have produced estimates based on data collected from prisons, news reports and independent research.

Twelve Americans are murdered every day by illegal aliens, according to statistics released by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. If those numbers are correct, it translates to 4,380 Americans murdered annually by illegal aliens. That’s 21,900 since Sept. 11, 2001.

Total U.S. troop deaths in Iraq as of last week were reported at 2,863. Total U.S. troop deaths in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan during the five years of the Afghan campaign are currently at 289, according to the Department of Defense.

But the carnage wrought by illegal alien murderers represents only a fraction of the pool of blood spilled by American citizens as a result of an open border and un-enforced immigration laws.

While King reports 12 Americans are murdered daily by illegal aliens, he says 13 are killed by drunk illegal alien drivers – for another annual death toll of 4,745. That’s 23,725 since Sept. 11, 2001.

While no one – in or out of government – tracks all U.S. accidents caused by illegal aliens, the statistical and anecdotal evidence suggests many of last year’s 42,636 road deaths involved illegal aliens.

A report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Study found 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver who lacks a valid license. In California, another study showed that those who have never held a valid license are about five times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident than licensed drivers.

Statistically, that makes them an even greater danger on the road than drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked – and nearly as dangerous as drunk drivers.

King also reports eight American children are victims of sexual abuse by illegal aliens every day – a total of 2,920 annually.

Based on a one-year in-depth study, Deborah Schurman-Kauflin of the Violent Crimes Institute of Atlanta estimates there are about 240,000 illegal immigrant sex offenders in the United States who have had an average of four victims each. She analyzed 1,500 cases from January 1999 through April 2006 that included serial rapes, serial murders, sexual homicides and child molestation committed by illegal immigrants.

As the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. increases, so does the number of American victims.

According to Edwin Rubenstien, president of ESR Research Economic Consultants, in Indianapolis in 1980, federal and state correctional facilities held fewer than 9,000 criminal aliens. But at the end of 2003, approximately 267,000 illegal aliens were incarcerated in all U.S. jails and prisons.

While the federal government doesn’t track illegal alien murders, illegal alien rapes or illegal alien drunk driving deaths, it has studied illegal aliens incarcerated in U.S. prisons.

In April 2005, the Government Accountability Office released a report on a study of 55,322 illegal aliens incarcerated in federal, state, and local facilities during 2003. It found the following:

The 55,322 illegal aliens studied represented a total of 459,614 arrests – some eight arrests per illegal alien;
Their arrests represented a total of about 700,000 criminal offenses – some 13 offenses per illegal alien;
36 percent had been arrested at least five times before.”
