Former Insurgents Face al-Qaida Wrath

BAGHDAD (AP) - Wearing a bandanna that hides his face, Omam Abed leads U.S. soldiers on raids in the west Baghdad streets where he grew up—kicking down doors and interrogating neighbors in search of fighters for al-Qaida in Iraq.

The 20-year-old is part of a ragtag collection of former Sunni insurgents—some even from the al-Qaida ranks—who have thrown their support behind U.S.-led security forces under pacts of mutual convenience.

The Sunni militiamen have grown leery of al-Qaida in Iraq and its ambitions, including self-proclaimed aims of establishing an Islamic state. The Pentagon, in turn, has latched onto its most successful strategy in months: partnering with former extremists who have the local know-how to help root out al-Qaida in Iraq.

But for Abed and others, this new war also brings grave dangers.

In Abed's Amariyah neighborhood—an affluent district that was home to privileged insiders under Saddam Hussein—the U.S.-allied band of about 150 former Sunni militants is now the No. 1 target for al-Qaida hitmen.

What other headline to expect? It’s actually Al-Qaeda facing the wrath of the Iraqis, even those they were allied with.

“It’s actually Al-Qaeda facing the wrath of the Iraqis”

That’s how I see it as well.

Because that 'Islamic State' will be run by Iran, and they don't want any part of that.

AQ are Sunni, Iran is Shiite. AQ doesn’t push for Iran involvement.

“Last month, two of Abed’s best friends, both 18-year-old members who also decided to aid U.S. forces, were dragged out of their high school during final exams and beheaded. Their bodies were flung up into a tree with the severed heads displayed on the sidewalk below, according to Abed and U.S. military officers stationed in the area.

There was no claim of responsibility, but the scene didn’t need one. All knew it was a ghastly warning to residents who choose to challenge al-Qaida in Iraq, which takes inspiration from Osama bin Laden but whose direct links to his terror network is unclear.”

What is it with these headline writers lately. Are they all blind or just on drugs?

Direct link unclear? The treasonous liberal media cannot go any lower. First of all it is called Al Qaeda in Iraq because they are Al Qaeda and they pledged full allegiance to Bin Laden and Zawahiri. Osama Bin Laden and Zawahiri declared Iraq as the center front of the war to fight the US. The now dead Zarqawi was dispatched in 2002 by Zawahiri to establish Al Qaeda in Iraq and the full knowledge and approval of Saddam. Many letters between Al Qaeda in Iraq and Zawahiri were captured inside Iraq.

I don’t get it either. It’s really beyond stupid; it’s willful ignorance and sophistry to protect the enemy in Iraq from the wrath of the Americans who understand what al Qaeda is about. And think of this way. If one says he’s a Catholic in Utah and considers the Pope his spiritual leader and pledges allegiance to the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church, would any sensible person say that man may not be a Catholic? Perhaps he’s really a Southern Baptist, a Unitarian, a Congregationalist, or a Jew. It’s weird to me that the MSM goes to such great links to deny the obvious. Only politics can explain it.

They hate President Bush more than they hate the terrorists and they want us defeated in Iraq. They are going crazy and full of rage and hatred because we are winning.

Yes, it’s ABDS - Advanced Bush Derangement Syndrome. As McCain say: presidents don’t lose wars, congress doesn’t lose wars, and political parties don’t lose wars. Nations lose wars.

Apparently for many Liberals, that’s a novel concept beyond their ken.

To: Terrence DoGood; All

Here is something for the Defeatist Democrats and Ron Paul crowd.
I’ve changed the words around in this Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) Live Aid theme song “The Tide Is Turning” to be more reflective of the times.

The Surge Is Workin

I used to think the world was flat
Rarely threw my hat into the crowd
I felt I had used up my quota of yearning
Used to look in on the children at night
In the glow of their Donald Duck light
And frighten myself with the thought of my little ones burning
But oh, oh, oh, the Surge is Working
The Surge is Working

Al Qaeda posting on Internet sites
Exclusive shots on the web of terrorist frights
Just imagine what these Muslim children must be learning
Whose Religion is the most righteous, whose is the best
Who holds the aces, the Middle East or the West
This is the crap Muslim children are learning
But oh, oh, oh, the Surge is Working
The Surge is Working
Oh, oh, oh, the Surge is Working

Now the websites confused
‘Cos on Saturday night
The traffic was full of compassion and light
And confused liberals with silicon hearts warmed
To the sight of a billion candles burning
Oo, oo, oo, the Surge is Working
Oo, oo, oo, the Surge is Working
The Surge is Working

I’m not saying that the battle is won
But on Saturday night all those kids in the sun
Wrested technology’s sword from the hand of the
War Lords
Oh, oh, oh, the Surge is Working

The Surge is Working.

There have been many Iraqi since the invasion that have sided with the US and Coalition forces. Not all Iraqi are dimwits, nor ignorant, nor bestial.
To often I think, images of people waddling around in garb and raising rifles in the air, screaching slogans etc., create a picture that all Arabs are like we seen over the years in comic strips etc..
One seldom sees any pictures of well dressed civilized Arabs walking the streets with family and or friends, dinning in outside markets, kids playing school yards, western clothed students attending universities, businessmen/women working in commerical settings etc..
And many of these people simply want to live under clean safe conditions and make a better world for their kids.
Sure there are a lot of real boneheads, but I see those kinds literally ripping the shit out of the Home Depot each day I work at, dripping their saliva, pieces of hoggies and steak sandwiches and spilled sodas, and the fat muslim women waddling around with their liters down my aisles, along with a lot of eastern Europeans, Mexicans and others... they all love Philadelphia... who are not much different then those we see burning US flags in downtown Baghdad, and screaming down with the great satan, etc..
I am basically convinced at this point, many Iraqi across the tribal/ethical spectrum really do want to see a peacefull, properous Iraq unfold.
And therefore we shall see more of them willing to take control of their potential future freedom from fear and oppresion, and join in the quest to rid their country of head choppers.
