The show was an instant success. It lured would-be child-sex predators to a public shaming, delivered by a handsome host. Ratings, awards and even praise from members of Congress followed. But now Dateline NBC's "To Catch a Predator" series is taking heat. And so is the police chief of the Collin County town that hosted it eight months ago. The troubles stem from the show's visit to Murphy, where more than 20 people were arrested but escaped prosecution because of evidence problems. Also a former district attorney ensnared in the sting shot himself.

Let me echo your sentiments.
I am falling on the floor amazed that Nonstatist is taking such a pro-pervert POV.
The trash is he spouting serves to prove that long time FReepers have immunity to the zot.
I'm more into twitch games that I can pick up, play with for a bit, then put back down again. (Comes from the hours required for the job, and having little kids...) I've been into MAME (Multi Arcade Mission Emulator) for awhile. It grabs the ROM files from the old arcade games (Asteroids, Space Invaders) and puts them into an on-screen playable emulator.
Nothing like playing the old games from the 80s. And, I can "feed a couple of quarters in", play for a few minutes, then walk away without getting sucked into playing for hours. It's a pleasant, brief distraction.
I’m, for one, not going to argue with anything you have to say, you are, obviously, a big fan of the ACLU and they would never concede the obvious either.
actually dateline DID break laws if they violated chain of custody rules.
I think the police affiliation was a re-election scheme and an effort to create arms length immunity from challeges to chain of custody.
IOW: Chain of custody starts after the police make an arrest not from before.
Remember a who bunch of the aleged predators were let off due to dateline botching the evidentiary rules.
COD online can be as quick as you like. I sometimes drop in for about 10 minutes because I have to admin the server (kick out problem players). I can jump in, shoot a few people, watch for idiots and get back out. My son started playing it when he was 8 so even kids can pick it up.
The sniper servers are very slow-paced which can be a welcome relief. I wish I had it when my kids were really young. When my daughter was 2, she would sit on my lap and watch me play Harpoon, yelling “BANGO” everytime a missile hit a ship.
So, purveyors of sleaze entrap potential pedophiles. How sweet. Now, who’s going to entrap the purveyors of sleaze, who, by the way, are more prevalent in this society than the potential pedophiles, no matter what the purveyors of sleaze tell you?

That's a bizarre statement.
I don't see why being suspicious of the ethics of Dateline NBC and committed to trial before punishment makes be a big fan of the ACLU.
These things are usually pretty obvious, at least in FReepville. You mention child molestation, though, and the torch 'n pitchfork crowd just goes nuts!
Things have changed since my old Atari 2600. Back in the day, I didn't need to use my Engineering degree to play a ##$%$#%! video game. I hear that the Nintendo Wii is pretty easy to use, though. I might look into it when the kids are old enough.

News flash! Free Republic unfair to child molesters!
Oh, the horror! Where is Bill O'Reilly when you need him?
I don’t demand that we coddle child molesters. Upon conviction, I have no problem with severe punishment. It is punishment before conviction that I have a problem with.
Or are you one of those folks who think TV networks never make a mistake?
We shouldn’t have to throw out the Constitution in order to enforce the law. What would be the problem with protecting the identity of these perverts until conviction?
My son has a wii. I am unimpressed. I tried to steer him towards a PS2. Cheaper and better games for now. The wii is still a year off for games.
The mouse-keyboard combination is the best for shooters. Keyboard hand for movement, mouse hand for shooting.

Wouldn't that constitute special treatment?
Exactly. They aren’t minors. Face it, NBC only shows people who are clearly busted and the vast majority of them plead guilty. This really isn’t debatable.
Is that what it is, smart guy? IMO, youre about as deep as a puddle and as wide as a crack if you cant see whats wrong with letting a bunch of left wing "journalists" lead the police by the nose through an ill thought through publicity lynching. If it cant stand up in a court of law, it shouldnt be done. How smart do you have to be to know that?? .. If stupidity and shallowness was against the law you'd be in trouble. Buts its not.
coming out against NBC on this is like coming out in favor of puppy-kicking...
agreed.
The problem is, if the police were to set something like this up, there’s a good chance a wise attorney (oxymoron??) could get it thrown out because of entrapment, or insufficient grounds for an arrest.
And that would be no less true if it’s a third party doing it as well...
I know 99% of these guys are scum, and it’s PROBABLY true that that figure is really 100%, but probability belongs on the math teachers blackboard, not in a court of law.
In this last go-round in Texas, the all walked, without prosecution. Zero for 20.
Apparently smarter than the magistrate who signed the search and arrest warrants.
