If you listen to folks who oppose immigration and border enforcement, you get the feeling they think we put locks on our doors to keep everybody out. The truth is we have locks so we can choose who comes in.
An example of what happens when we dont make the choice took place August 4th when three Newark, New Jersey, college students with great promise were executed, gangland style. The killers ringleader was apparently an illegal alien indicted twice in 2007 for felonies, including the rape of a kindergarten-aged girl.
Why would such a person be set free instead of being handed over to authorities for deportation? The answer is that Newark is a sanctuary city which bans cooperation between local officials and federal immigration officials. More than 60 sanctuary zones, including 30 of Americas largest cities, provide a national networked haven for foreign and organized criminals who recruit and operate outside those areas as well. These sanctuaries include Cambridge, Massachusetts; Los Angeles, California; Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Austin and Houston, Texas; Denver, Colorado; and New York City.
The consequences of sanctuary cities may be most obvious in the city that became the first in 1979 Los Angeles. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, a confidential California Department of Justice study from the mid-1990s showed then that at least 60 percent of the members of L.A.s most violent gangs, with membership in the tens of thousands, were illegal aliens. Of all outstanding murder warrants in Los Angeles, 95 percent are for illegal aliens. Frustrated police say they are powerless to pick up even well-known, previously deported felons.

“I dont think that these three dead college kids, or the raped five
year-old girl had anything to do with establishing the sanctuary city.”
I wasn’t “blaming the specific victims”.
More specifically, I meant that “sanctuary cities” deserve the bad
rap they get for crime and lawlessness.
And as the politicians and general populace that FACILITATE the acts
of crimaliens don’t change course, they bear a fair amount of culpability
for acts such as the ones in Newark.
Some cities decide to adopt a demographic of illegal immigrants
which often entails populating the city with a whole new criminal class.
Thus the city, collectively, gets what it deserves.
And in the case of Newark, doesn’t even have the fig-leaf excuse of
showing they were actively trying to weed out the “crimaliens”
from the otherwise law-abiding alien population.
It’s beyond sad that this caused the death of what sounds like three
decent kids and the serious injury to another.
Don’t forget Maryland - the first sanctuary state!
Horsecrap. Using the logic of the judge in the Hazelton case, local communities could not enforce state traffic laws such as requiring registration or insurance. It is pure nonsense.
Only to the Freeper who doesn't understand how much our economy and the government coffers depend on them [illegal aliens]
To anyone who understands what it's like to be self-employed...to work without any government safety net...it's a no brainer.

What you mean to say is 'to anyone who profits from the illegals...'
Perhaps you should change your moniker to economykiller? ;^)
Fred's going about this the correct way.
Throw the violent felons out and legalize/recognize the rest as resident aliens.
The cities get cleaned up...crime goes down...and the economy keeps humming along.
I think it's terrific that he's addressing this. Sounds very Reaganesque.
Well then, why don't YOU go out and make some 'citizen arrests'?
Round up all you can find and hold them until you can call the police to pick them up. {{{smile}}}
Sanctuary cities should be barred from recieving federal funds until they change their policy.
And the 1st presidential candidate to adopt this as a solution and eloquently state it will see their popularity soar in a positive way.
the problem with the police, in LosAngeles, is that the police chief is chosen by the mayor and his cohorts. they own him, and “mayor villar” is not only pro sanctuary city, but pro everything that this country does NOT stand for. In another time he’d be either hung at the hanging tree for treason, or run out of town on a rail.
congress is an idiot, except for like the 2% of less that are trying to do their job.
Local government is making money on the illegals due to funding formulas that are doled out on a per capita basis. Republicans would do well to realize that and not spend all of their energy bashing employers.
Well, most state laws regarding citizens arrest require one to witness a probable felony in progress. Given that illegal entry into this country is not always a felony, and given that, in Pennsylvania, it's pretty hard to witness illegal entry unless you see a raft of illegals coming across Lake Erie from Canada, citizens arrest is generally not a viable option in countering illegal immigration where I live.
Round up all you can find and hold them until you can call the police to pick them up. {{{smile}}}
Better to allow local governments to require that someone seeking a legal residence show they are legally allowed to reside here. A rather commonsense notion that is only undone by activist judges who discover some kind of right for illegals to be illegally in the country and not be subject to government taking action against such.

Hey, genius, how can you tell the difference? Do they wear signs? Do they register with the police? Can we tell just by looking? Oh, we have to wait until the violent felons rape or assault or murder (and get caught/convicted).
In your solution how many more rape or muder victims would we see? 100? 500? 5,000?
What's a number that you can live with in order to keep your supply of illegals flowing? My number is zero.
McCain stated on last night's O'REILLY FACTOR that small business is exempt from the requirement to check on employee's legal status or SS#.
I believe it's anybody with less than 10 employees.
So...if you own a small home improvement business with 27 employees, break it down into 3 different businesses...such as DC's painters; DC's drywall; DC's flooring.
The entrepreneur spirit is alive and kicking!
Of course there are probably IRS rules consisting of pages that address this 'scheme', but hey....it's easier to say, 'I'm sorry'...than ask permission. ;^)
Seriously though...most well-informed people realize that small business is the backbone of the economy and everything is dependent upon it.
Go a step further. File RICO suits against the city governments of the “sanctuary cities”, as they are engaged in a deliberate pattern of violating and obstructing federal law.
***That’s exactly what I’m getting at.
Have you figured out how many union jobs Washington supports with its payments for eduction, incarceration, and healthcare of illegals? This summer they are expressing $12m/day to NYC for free lunches for 4 million kids at swimming pools and rec centers. Cut off the federal payments and being a sanctuary will no longer be attractive or lucrative.
Huh? Does that mean that I don't have to pay local property taxes?
Do you know that the judge in the Hazelton case cited "foreign agreements" in his argument? In other words, the Hazelton laws would violate agreements with mexico. Think of the doors that opens for the terrorists and illegals from all over the world.
On another note, why should we import millions from one culture and no others?
Fred,,,
This is not news...We all know the story...
Question is; what do you propose to do about it as President of the United States???

IOW...DCprofiteer has crafted a scheme to defeat the intention of the law and continue to hire illegals. Why is that not a surprise?

Gee, that's not what the law says. It is very clear...every employer must verify every employee.
Section 274A of the Immigration and Nationality Act (Act), 8 U.S.C. 1324a, requires all U.S. employers to verify the employment eligibility and identify of all employees hired to work in the United States after November 6, 1986.
