Karl Rove to Resign At the End of August By a WALL STREET JOURNAL Staff Reporter August 13, 2007 4:00 a.m.

Karl Rove, President Bush's longtime political adviser, is resigning as White House deputy chief of staff effective Aug. 31, and returning to Texas, he said in an interview with Paul Gigot, editor of The Wall Street Journal's editorial page. (See related editorial1.) [nowide] 'THE MARK OF ROVE'

Read the editorial2 by The Wall Street Journal's editorial page editor, Paul Gigot, on his interview with Karl Rove.

Mr. Rove, who has held a senior post in the White House since President Bush took office in January 2001, told Mr. Gigot he first floated the idea of leaving a year ago. But he delayed his departure as, first, Democrats took Congress, and then as the White House tackled debates on immigration and Iraq, he said. He said he decided to leave after White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten told senior aides that if they stayed past Labor Day they would be obliged to remain through the end of the president's term in January 2009.

"I just think it's time," Mr. Rove said in the interview. "There's always something that can keep you here, and as much as I'd like to be here, I've got to do this for the sake of my family." Mr. Rove and his wife have a home in Ingram, Texas, and a son who attends college in nearby San Antonio. [Karl Rove]

In the interview, Mr. Rove said he expects Democrats to give the 2008 presidential nomination to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, whom he described as "a tough, tenacious, fatally flawed candidate." He also said Republicans have "a very good chance" to hold onto the White House in next year's elections.

Great timing for this annoucement with all the Dimwits on vacation. Wouldn’t be surprised if one of them call for an investigation to find out why Rove resigned on this of all days. HA!

Some people don't mind being vilified by the Left.

Actually, it's an honor for some!

Coaches in the NFL do the same thing. Do you know how many years Saints fans have heard that crap. Should Rove have told all Conservatives to just stay home? If you had studied the 2006 election you would know the truth. We were polling ahead of dims by a significant amount... until foleygate broke. Then it was non-stop “culture of corruption” from the most corrupt party the world has ever known... the evildim party.

Oh come on, I remember all the posts around here back then. The "Rove you magnificent bastard" ping list. How ol' Carl had all his super-secret polls that showed how every one else was wrong. Sorry, but Rove is supposed to have been this uber-genius and if he was warning anyone about Foley or potential loses in 2006 then I didn't see it. If anything it was Rove who underestimated Foley and the war and all the rest. And as for being the wizard of the domestic agenda then where are his wins? Tax cuts, No Child Left Behind, Medicare Drug plan. It looks to me like he got more of Ted Kennedy's stuff through than George Bush's. Rove, IMHO, was far over-rated and his leaving will neither aid nor hurt the administration.

Bingo. You are exactly right.

This is actually the perfect time for Rove to make his exit. The 2008 election is ramping up and by leaving, he removes himself as a prime target for the Democrat star chamber. The democrats want to sail to victory in 2008 by holding hearings against Republicans vs promoting the policies of their candidates.

Why would anyone want Rove in their campaign? He is credited with being the mastermind of the Bush administration and the Republican election strategies. That isn’t resume that should get him into many campaigns.
06 was a debacle and the President’s policies have flown in the face of the base.

Can't blame him. The president has no choice but to stay there and be beaten like a dog for another two years. Rove does have a choice. Sounds like he's taking it.

Democrats must be doing the happy dance today.

There have been no truly great men for generations...only fortunate circumstances and well-funded publicity machines.

These people BELIEVED all the Propoganda being fed them, and they cannot understand what happened...

To be fair, a lot of people on Conservative sites believe the leftist propaganda about Rove “controlling” Bush.

President Bush to hold press conference today at 12. The President will thank Karl Rove and announce that he is appointing Rush Limbaugh as Rove's replacement.

At 12:01 PM, Chris Matthews will commit suicide on pmsnbc.
