Yesterday at work, a coworker claimed that he had seen an AK-47 that had a grenade launcher mounted under the barrel. I've never seen such a configuration and was wondering if anyone can tell me if such a weapon exists, and if so what its designation is.

I usually don't post vanities, but Martin's claim piqued my interest and I promised I'd check and see if I could find anything. Thanks.

“Can an AK-47 have a grenade launcher?”
If it’s pointed in my direction, it can have whatever it wants.

If anyone has any information about this weapon (if it even exists) I'd greatly appreciate it.
I've got to head back to work, but I'll check back in a few hours. Thanks again.

Yes, there are several that were developed by various countries. The Russian 40mm variant of the underbarrel launcher is called the GP-25. Unlike the US M203, the AKM with an underbarrel launcher doesn't have a different name than the non-launcher units.
Here is an AKM with a GP-25:

Kind of like where the 500-pound gorilla sits when it goes to the theater?

What’s the wager?
And what’s my cut when I provide you the evidence you need?

Thank you very much. Martin will be relieved to know that he wasn’t imagining things in his old age.

Google is our FRiend :-)
Google < “ak-47” “grenade launcher” > (without the arrows) and you’ll find a wide selection of these creatures. Here’s the first hit:

The M16 has the M203...I imagine there’s something similar for the AK47.

The M1 Garand used a tube that fit in the bore and used a blank to send the grenade on it’s way.
This would work on any rifle.

Unfortunately, the computer system we have here at work has been obsolete for about 10 years and the restrictions the upper management has put on our access is rediculous. They have restricted our personal access to three websites of our choosing. I have FoxNews, FreeRepublic, and G-Mail as my three, so my options are limited until I get home.
