Asking for 6 years? Try asking for at least 30!
Dinesh D’Souza addresses the question in “The Enemy at Home” quite well. A good read, even though a bunch of the mainstream conservative commentators think he goes too far in blaming liberals for being in ignorant collusion with “radical Islam”. I appreciated the book.
Colonel, USAFR
“Or perhaps we mean Hamas, Hezbollah, or the myriad religious nationalist organizations across the Muslim world that share neither the ideology nor the aspirations of global, transnational groups like al-Qaida”
Oh please. Yes, they’re SO different.
BTW, what happened to the liberal mantra of “we’re all the same”?
Why do they hate us? Just look at what the jihadists have been saying:
al Qaeda spokesman Suleiman Abu Gheith:
“America is the head of heresy in our modern world, and it leads an infidel democratic regime that is based upon separation of religion and state and on ruling the people by the people via legislating laws that contradict the way of Allah and permit what Allah has prohibited.”
Osama bin Laden:
“We are certain that we shall - with the grace of Allah - prevail over the Americans and over the Jews, as the Messenger of Allah promised us in an authentic prophetic tradition when He said the Hour of Resurrection shall not come before Muslims fight Jews and before Jews hide behind trees and behind rocks.”
Of course, socialists (along with the Ron Paulestinians) will say we’re responsible for the actions of dark age religious fundamentalists.
They hate us because they’re jealous, just like anyone hates someone richer and more well off than they are.
It’s OK to ponder why they hate us.
But the answer doesn’t really matter.
Americans have been asking this question for nearly six years now, and for six years President Bush and his accomplices have been offering the same tired response: “They hate us for our freedoms.”

Should be a barf with heavy oder alert with this.
Lets see now, jimmy carter 1979 and the hostages, ‘they liked us then’.
less that a month from the 6th anniversary of 9-11, which was planned in the 90’s, OH and world trade center I was in the early 90’s.
Why do they hate us ?
@ss backwards pedophile loving Islamic lunatics
.. who cares !!!!!
To paraphrase Caligula: “It does not matter that they hate us, it only matters if they fear us.”
We need to give up on this question. They hate us. Kill them.
There, fixed it.
They hate is for our freedoms is a nice way of saying that they hate us for not bowing to Mecca.
read this on the msn site that pops up after you sign off your email, the header intrigued me, silly me, i assumed it had to be about someone hating the united states, and we have to understand why
i apologize if this has already been posted, did a search, came up empty
“They hate us for our freedoms.”
Bush is right.
They hate us because we are free.
We are free to choose to STAND IN THEIR WAY and their facist goals and defend freedoms for all. That tends to make them upset. LOL
This is Slate, after all.
The bottom line is, it makes not one whit of difference why they hate us. No matter what we do, it is not going to change. If they hate us for a specific reason and we address it For example: they hate us because we have military bases on Saudi soil. We leave. They find some other excuse. They hate us because of “FILL IN BLANK HERE”.
Makes no difference at all, only liberals think it does, and libs are their allies anyway.
The real question is, why don’t we hate them? They’re the ones behaving badly, they’re the ones locked into unreasonable, unfounded prejudice(s) against us and against one another. They’re the ones blowing up marketplaces and schools. What’s not to hate?
This lying Muslim mouthpiece must have forgotten Iran’s holding of US hostages for 444 days during the Jimmah Carter debacle. Or we could go all the way back to the Barbary Pirates of Pres. Jefferson’s day.
Islam has always been opposed to freedom. Muslims fight for the universal misery of everyone on earth being subject to their God-awful moon god. Only our brain-dead Democrats and their lapdogs in the msm and leftist blogs can shrug this off as acceptable.
I don’t ask any more. I simply don’t care to hear their explaination.
Reza conveniently overlooks the MSM’s role in creating this anti-American world vision. Al-Qaeda, to an increasingly large degree, merely parrots what people like Reza’s fellow travelers believe and enunciate. Al-Qaeda’s writings are a giant echo chamber.
Also, what struck me about reading this piece was how incredibly arrogant it was. No condemnation of how deadly Hamas/Hezbollah were, no condemnation of the policy of beheading of people. Just a whining denunciation of “us vs. them” delineation of our enemies.
Sorry Reza. You can sugarcoat s*!t all you want. I’m not biting.
