Why do they hate us?
Americans have been asking this question for nearly six years now, and for six years President Bush and his accomplices have been offering the same tired response: "They hate us for our freedoms." With every passing year, that answer becomes less convincing.
Part of the problem has to do with the question itself. Who exactly are they? Are we referring to al-Qaida and its cohorts? Are we talking about Iran, Syria, and the other nation-states whose interests in the Middle East do not properly align with America's? Or perhaps we mean Hamas, Hezbollah, or the myriad religious nationalist organizations across the Muslim world that share neither the ideology nor the aspirations of global, transnational groups like al-Qaida, but that have nevertheless been dumped into the same category: them.

Asking for 6 years? Try asking for at least 30!
Dinesh D’Souza addresses the question in “The Enemy at Home” quite well. A good read, even though a bunch of the mainstream conservative commentators think he goes too far in blaming liberals for being in ignorant collusion with “radical Islam”. I appreciated the book.
Colonel, USAFR
Try asking for at least 200 years. Thomas Jefferson found out the answer when he read the Koran.
“Or perhaps we mean Hamas, Hezbollah, or the myriad religious nationalist organizations across the Muslim world that share neither the ideology nor the aspirations of global, transnational groups like al-Qaida”
Oh please. Yes, they’re SO different.
BTW, what happened to the liberal mantra of “we’re all the same”?
Why do they hate us? Just look at what the jihadists have been saying:
al Qaeda spokesman Suleiman Abu Gheith:
“America is the head of heresy in our modern world, and it leads an infidel democratic regime that is based upon separation of religion and state and on ruling the people by the people via legislating laws that contradict the way of Allah and permit what Allah has prohibited.”
Osama bin Laden:
“We are certain that we shall - with the grace of Allah - prevail over the Americans and over the Jews, as the Messenger of Allah promised us in an authentic prophetic tradition when He said the Hour of Resurrection shall not come before Muslims fight Jews and before Jews hide behind trees and behind rocks.”
Of course, socialists (along with the Ron Paulestinians) will say we’re responsible for the actions of dark age religious fundamentalists.
They hate us because they’re jealous, just like anyone hates someone richer and more well off than they are.
It’s OK to ponder why they hate us.
But the answer doesn’t really matter.
This article is such drivel. I guess par for the course for the liberal Slate on-line magazine.
Anyway, do we really care about the specific policy positions of bin Laden? He’s saying we just don’t know a lot of the specifics of what Al Qaeda and others want to accomplish, or what their policy goals are. Do we really care? I think we learned a lot about bin Laden’s policy goals on September 11th.

Why do they hate us ?
@ss backwards pedophile loving Islamic lunatics
.. who cares !!!!!
To paraphrase Caligula: “It does not matter that they hate us, it only matters if they fear us.”
“is based upon separation of religion and state”
Proof that all the liberal squawking really DOES reach enemy ears, even primitive 1s across the world.
We need to give up on this question. They hate us. Kill them.
There, fixed it.
Naaaa, they hate us cuz we are EVIL. We are pure evil!
We are the great satan!
We must apologize for all the atrocities we have committed against
“them”.
:)
MV
They hate is for our freedoms is a nice way of saying that they hate us for not bowing to Mecca.
read this on the msn site that pops up after you sign off your email, the header intrigued me, silly me, i assumed it had to be about someone hating the united states, and we have to understand why
i apologize if this has already been posted, did a search, came up empty
The question should be: "Why do we waste time wondering 'why'"?
