There has been some turmoil yesterday on the leaderboard of the U.S. (Temperature) Open and there is a new leader.
A little unexpectedly, 1998 had a late bogey and 1934 had a late birdie. (I thought that they were both in the clubhouse since the turmoil seemed to be in the 2000s.) In any event, the new leader atop the U.S. Open is 1934.

The laser thermometer that I checked it against had an accuracy of +/- 1 degree C (2F) at 32 to 150F of reading with 1/10th degree. I ran the full scale in approximately 30 degree steps.
i wouldn’t trust the leftist enviro whacko’s today
compared with the people of the 1930’s.
What years were the Dust Bowl?
The early to mid 30’s. I think 34, 5 & 6 were the worst if I recall correctly.
I wouldn’t trust today’s readings - have you heard where they’re putting some of the ‘official’ weather stations?

The Bush/Cheney/Rove machine seems to be working...........stand-by...
Needless to say, the author really wanted to be out playing golf when he penned the article.
Holy Cowess, What else do you do?
My late father lived until 2003, and the 1930s had the hottest and coldest weather he ever saw. One summer, I think it was 1936 (perhaps 1934?) the entire yard (this was in the country, so about three acres) got to the point where it was just cracked earth, with cracks he could put his whole hand down into. There hasn’t been a repetition of this since then.
You are gem! Thank you for your ensight :)
“In 1934 to 1936, three record drought years were marked for the nation. In 1936, a more severe storm spread out of the plains and across most of the nation. The drought years were accompanied with record breaking heavy rains, blizzards, tornadoes and floods.”
This quote was taken from the following site. I have no problem thinking 1934 was the hottest on record.

Good thing they didn’t have globull warming back then.
There are sunsopot observations made at Greenwich, England, dating back to the early to middle 1600’s that have become extremely important in determining sunspot activity as an indicator of our sun’s energy output. An absence of sunspots for decades coincided with a very long duration of cold weather. It has become known as the Little Ice Age. So, just because scientists may not have had the most sophisticated of equipment back then in the 17th century, it doen’e equate that they couldn’t observe and make correlations. Ergo for 1934.
All this is why I don't give any credence to "man made" global warming. It goes through cycles, is easily verified, and is caused by the Sun. Man made global warming is a political plot to take your money, destroy America, and raise up the socialist "global citizen think".
Elect some of these wacko's next election cycle and get ready to turn over sovereignty to the UN or the Euro Zone. The Chinese will be driving BMW's and we will be on mopeds. Then the world will crow about how capitalism is a failure.
"Does this mean I have to go out and get a real job?"
So what they are saying is that it is cooler now, right?
LMAO, heads are going to roll...
And you'd be wrong. The science of thermometry has been very mature for a LONG time.
—yep—Lead, SD had both the high (100F) and the coldest (-36F) in 1936—
