Reporter's Fibs Show Disdain For U.S. Troops

The tale of Army Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp, the discredited "Baghdad Diarist" for the discredited New Republic magazine, is an old tale: Self-aggrandizing soldier recounts war atrocities. Media outlets disseminate soldier's tales uncritically.

Military folks smell a rat and poke holes in tales too good (or rather, bad) to be true. Soldier's ideological sponsors blame the messengers for exposing anti-war fraud.

Beauchamp belongs in the same ward as John F. Kerry, the original infectious agent of the toxic American disease known as Winter Soldier Syndrome. The ward is filling up.

U.S. military investigators concluded this week that Beauchamp concocted allegations of troop misconduct in a series of essays for the New Republic.

"The investigation is complete and the allegations from Private Beauchamp are false," Maj. Steven Lamb, a spokesman for Multinational Division Baghdad, told USA Today. The New Republic is standing by Beauchamp's work.

But Michael Goldfarb, the online editor and blogger at the Weekly Standard who first challenged Beauchamp's writing, reported Monday that Beauchamp had "signed a sworn statement admitting that all three articles he published in the New Republic were exaggerations and falsehoods — fabrications containing only 'a smidgen of truth,' in the words of our source."

Like Ann Coulter says: “Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp, Democratic candidate for president circa 2028.”

Whether anyone wants to face it or not, Pat Tillman would have been another “progressive” who would have written for the anti-American, anti-war crowd after discharge.

The damage is done: don’t believe war bloggers, you can’t trust them. That’s what the Sheep will think, in between episodes of Desperate Housewives.

Have not read enough to know if this is the fact. If it is the case, he would have earned the right to criticize, as few of us have!

No one has asked, or is asking:

Hom much money was Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp paid by New Republic Magazine to weave his web of deceit and lies?

I suspect he was paid a sizable stringers fee and bonuses.

If so he committed fraud, and also is liable to Courts Marshal charges.

I hope that Beauchamp and New Republic Magazine are duly held responsible in a court of law for fabricating and diseminating treasonous propaganda.

I don’t know if that’s the case, either, but I do know his family has become a major tool for the left.

I don't believe it. And I don't believe he liked an idiot such as Chomsky either.

Of course, Pat Tillman is not alive to refute the antiwar smears leveled against him.

This tactic reminds me of the strategy of the homosexual lobby who say that when people die they were secretly gay afterall.

WOW...and an Army Ranger...extremely surprising that an Army Ranger would have become anti if he’d lived.

They’ve earned their right to say whatever they want. They raised two Army Rangers and one gave his life (and gave up millions of dollars and a life of luxury) to do so. Most likely more that you’ve done. So, please STFU.

Think it doesn't make a difference? Imagine where Sen. John Kerry would be now if the Internet had been around in 1971.

That is so true. Look at Dan Rather...it took the internet to finally get rid of him.

She may have been out of line, but this site does not need people like you calling people names right out of something at DU or KOS. I suggest you ask the mods to remove your post.

Yes, they have a right to say whatever. But I do hope they realize that they’re harming the war effort, and probably the lives of other men and women—sons and daughters of parents who love them dearly, too.

Interesting perspective. She sits on her large rear-end and claims that an honorable warrior who gave the ultimate sacrifice was essentially a duplicitious traitor...and my anger and coarse words upset you? You can be quiet too as far as I’m concerned.

He died in the honorable service of his country.

Your attempt to demean him is shameful.

My problem with you is that you are breaking the rules of this site and acting like you are a DU’er. You can express your anger without breaking the rules. As for your concern about my speaking out. Too bad. I’ve certainly earned my right to speak based upon your criteria for it.
